  1. I remember first reading Jack’s biography of Miles Davis at the library while I was in college and it was my favorite book about Miles in those days (early ‘90’s). Later I got my own copy and reread it many times. In later years I began to question his take on Miles’ work after 1968 and preferred other authors on the electric years (like Paul Tingen) but I still consider Jack’s book a must read.
  2. I wanted especially to watch the Criterion bonus material (I already have the old DVD).
  3. I have issues with getting some new Blu Rays to work on my player - in fact although I own the Criterion Monk release I’ve never seen it!
  4. I though Criterion edition was Blu Ray only?
  5. My favorite quote from the NYT obituary: “Bath toys, teapots, tuned bottles of water, bicycle pumps, chairs, dolls, anvils and even his own beard were among the items he employed. While recording the album “Slaves Mass” for Warner Bros. Records in 1976, he brought a pair of live pigs into the studio and “played” them as if they were bagpipes, incorporating their squeals into the mix.”
  6. Sorry I forgot to include the link. (I had intended to).
  7. Strata-East artist, in case not already posted by someone else here.
  8. Big fan of his work with KC and ELP. Watched a tribute to PS on YouTube recently which drew to my attention his solo album “Still” which I don’t think I’d ever listened to before. Reminds me in places of early Tim Buckley.
  9. I’ve been enjoying this too. I had to remind myself that LL was in Aziza with DH, and also played with many other interesting players. I think I saw him live with Joe Lovano once. Don’t remember if I ever saw Aziza live.
  10. Hi everyone, I just wanted to say I got a kick out of seeing this old thread resurrected. For the record, I still dig Brian Auger!
  11. Update: I listened to both Compost albums on Spotify and found that while they’re still not really classics I enjoy them more now than 10 years ago. A few weeks later I found the CD’s in a box while looking for something else and listened to them again. I have now added them on the shelf with my other Jack De Johnette CD’s.
  12. Man, I have no memory of having started this topic. I do remember the part of the story not included in the thread though..in about 2010 Wounded Bird reissued both Compost albums on CD and I bought them. I wasn’t too impressed to be honest. Rereading this thread inspires me to pull them out of storage and give them another try...especially to hear the second side of the first one. Or I could listen to them on Spotify (I see they have both Compost albums there...) https://www.amazon.com/Life-Round-Compost/dp/B004708KAG https://www.amazon.com/Compost/dp/B004708JZW
  13. Fellow Music fans, I have a ticket for Glenn Hughes (ex- Deep Purple, Black Sabbath, etc.) show at Rams Head on Stage in Annapolis, MD. It was originally scheduled for last month, but it was postponed to August due to Glenn's knee surgery. I was very excited to see this show, but unfortunately I have just found out that I have to be in Europe at that time, to help a sick family member, and won't be able to attend. Would any of you want the ticket? If so please let me know and we can discuss the details off line. I'm not looking to make a profit here, just trying to make sure that the ticket doesn't go to waste. Best, Henry. www.ramsheadonstage.com/event/977267-glenn-hughes-annapolis
