Manteca = my favorite Garland on Prestige.

"South side soul" is such a beautiful album. Wright has such a lovely touch. I wish there were more than three of his Prestige albums out on CD. MG I'd agree with you on that one MG, it's a gem. I was hooked on it from the opening number. I've got 'South Side Soul' and 'Makin' Out'. Both great! but i like Makin' Out much much more, as it includes a tenor and is just a burner! Wish I had "Makin' out"! "Mr soul" OJC and "Nice & tasty" recent cheap reissue by JVC (same release you bought a number of other things from Hiroshi) are both lovely trio albums. MG Ah yes, i'll have to get Nice n tasty. could never really find Mr.Soul at the right price at the right time, so i stopped looking. Might as well start looking again.

I dig Pepper, but don't own alot of him. But speaking of baritone, one solo that absolutely amazes me is Fred Jackson's solo of John Patton's "The Way I Feel". Oh my god, probably one of my favorite solos period.

Ethics with amazon seller
NaturalSoul replied to Guy Berger's topic in Miscellaneous - Non-Political
I actually have a question (kind of relates to this). I ordered an album through an amazong seller (doolcity). I waited a month, sent 2 emails with no reply, finally on the third email they replied saying that it got lost in the mail and i will recieve a full refund. It's been a few days and i haven't been refunded. Should i wait a few more days for the refund? And even if i get the refund, what kind of feedback should i leave? I've never had a problem like this. Sorry Guy for posting this in your thread. I'll delete the post if you want, just thought it was silly making a new thread that's similar to yours. -

Allow me to get it started......... Mizzou's loss last night turned out to be pretty costly. No BCS anything for them. That doesn't seem fair. Kansas made out pretty well though. A season like this one, with so many upsets and so many teams peaking late, is a good argument for a playoff system of some sort. Mizzou and Tennessee both got screwed with conference championship games. Where as Georgia and Kansas both made out pretty well. Of course it would be different if they won, obviously.

I just got season one from the library, love it so far.

Mind giving a little info on "The Soul Stirrers"? Never heard of them. A gospel vocal group which included Sam Cooke. Yes, the Soul Stirrers were formed in Texas, in the thirties I think. The original lead singer was Rebert H Harris. Started recording in early 1940s, then for Aladdin in 1946. Backup lead was Paul Foster from 1950, when they started recording for Specialty. Harris left the group in 1951. Sam Cooke recruited to replace him. Paul Foster continued alternating many leads with Cooke (these are, I think, the most exciting of the Stirrers' singles from the Cooke period). Cooke left 1957, replaced by Johnnie Taylor, previously with the Highway QCs, the Soul Stirrers' training quartet. Leroy Crume joined group on baritone and playing guitar, when group left Specialty and recorded for Cooke's label, Sar. Taylor left 1960, also to pursue career in Soul, replaced by Jimmy Outler; Foster still with the group! Foster and Outler left in 1965, replaced by Willie Rogers and Arthur Crume; group now recording for Checker. Rufus Crume arrives; now three of them in the group! Strength, power and love was recorded in 1973 and the personnel was: Dillard Crume - lead guitar & organ Arthur Crume - rhythm guitar Rufus Crume - bass & guitar Sonny Thompson - piano (this was the great blues pianist whose "Long gone" was a huge R&B hit in 1948) Terry Thompson - drums A more or less total takeover by the Crume Brothers! Although there are a few hangovers from the Cooke style, the album is rather different from their earlier recordings; more power-packed, less subtle. MG D'oh, i believe i was just looking at a 3cd boxset on amazon of Sam Cooke and the soul stirrers in that sale someone posted.
