  1. JEFF HAMILTON TRIO On Thursday the 16th of October 2008 the Jeff Hamilton Trio performed at the Porgy en Bess Jazz Club in Terneuzen in the southwest part of The Netherlands, before an enthusiastic audience. The trio featured Jeff Hamilton on drums, Tamir Hendelman at the piano and Christoph Luty on bass. Jeff Hamilton showed us, that nothing is left of the ingrained prejudice that a drum set always sounds very loud. With the brushes ( or sometimes even with his bare hands in a nameless tune, titled in Ternoezen as Arlen Goes To Brasil) and a fabulous technique, he can create a clear and transparent rhythmical base. 2. FRANK ROSOLINO I really enjoyed his free-ranging lines and humour in the music. I liked Thou Swell and How Long which has a great improvisation between Frank Rosolino on the trombone and Richie Kamuca on tenor sax. In the Free For All session of December 1958 Frank Rosolino has some great names in his quintet, like Harold Land on tenor saxophone, Victor Feldman at the piano, Leroy Vinnegar on bass and Stan Levey on drums. 6. MARIANO DI NUNZIA This record, although dedicated to the music of Kurt Weill, has become a real jazz album with some great ballads. Je ne t'aime pas is such a ballad on flugelhorn and the final tune, Speak Low, a known jazz piece, which concludes this fine disc. The Mariano di Nunzia Trio has transformed the 17th century harmonies and rhythms ( like the polka) into swing and funky jazz rhythms and it became a great document in modern jazz. Enjoy tunes like Via Pacinotti nº 25. Mariano di Nunzio: trumpet player Keep swinging Durium

    Rik Mol

RIK MOL Rik Mol, our booming Dutch jazz trumpet player, who was born and raised in our own region of Zeeland, in the southwest part of The Netherlands, has made his first record under own name, titled What's On Tonight. It is a great album on which Rik Mol shows that he is a many-sided trumpet player. This kind of jazz will be liked by the younger generation and gives the band the potential to reach new groups of admirers. Rik Mol: What's On Tonight Keep swinging Durium

    Don Ellis

DON ELLIS Ken Orton loves to publish his Don Ellis biography: “In Search of Don Ellis, Forgotten Genius” – written in American English - completed and copyrighted in October 2007. There are well over 800 pages of text and over 200 pages contained in the “Picture Galleries”, that include many rare, unpublished shots. Although he has tried over the past months to find a publisher or means of publishing, he was unsuccessfully. That’s why he loves to share exclusively this extensive article with the readers of the Keep Swinging blogin: Don Ellis: May Time Restore? Keep swinging Durium

    Sonny Rollins

SONNY ROLLINS Today, the 7th of September, Sonny Rollins, hopes to celebrate his 78th birthday. He was born in New York City on the 7th of September 1930. He is still an active man and most of you will remember the "hype" around the concert November last year in Carnegie Hall, New York City to memorate that it was 50 years ago that he first played in that famous venue. Happy Birthday Sonny Keep swinging Durium

  24. SMOKEY WOOD John Bryce Wood got the nickname Smokey because he always smoked weed and that kind of stuff. He even would pop it right there on the stand - it didn't made no difference where they were. He lit 'em on both ends and smoked 'em in the middle. They bought that stuff by the pound, two pounds, whatever. Even grew some for awhile there, between the signboards right off Main Street in Houston, Texas. Had about twenty, thirty stalks growing.
