BOBBY PREVITE'S NEW BUMP Bobby Previte drums - Ellery Eskelin tenorsax - Bill Ware vibraphone - Brad Jones bass Bill Ware was a surprise for me. Since Bobby Hutcherson ( I heard him playing July 2002 at the North Sea Jazz Festival in his McCoy Tyner-Bobby Hutcherson Quartet) the vibraphone is no longer the instrument to use in the swing and bop tradition exclusively. He played a great lengthly intro during the concert before an audience as quiet as a mouse; the only annoying noise was the instruments rotor motor - a moment to remember. The music played by Bill Ware on his vibraharp was almost hypnotizing, waves of sounds, impressions like in a movie soundtrack. ... RITA REYS 9 mei 2008 International Jazz Festival - Middelburg ( The Netherlands) Rita Reys, 83 years young, performed with a trio directed by piano player Erik Van Der Luyt. In two sets Rita Reys sung about twenty tunes, most from the American Songbook. Despite her age she still has that certain magic that belongs to the great star of the previous decades. JAZZ ON CD The promo CD Stash Bash. The glossy magazine Jazz On CD was published in the early 1990s. Each magazine contained a free promo record with a rather good selection of tunes. I have the Jazz on CD "Treasurehouse" (MMP Jaz/3CD ) and Home Cooking ( MMP Jaz/4 CD ) incl. the magazines, so I have some discographical information to date the records. Recently I found a sole Jazz On CD promo CD titled Stash Bash ( MMP JAZ/5 CD) which means that it was a free CD for the September 1993 issue I guess.
