Song For Linda, Nelly, Frank and Hans Titles like Song for Darnell, Song for Chet, Song for Kathy, Song for Leo, Song for Niels, Song for Gijs and Song for George Bush made me insanely jealous. Why did nobody ever made a tune dedicated to Hans, like Song for Hans .......... and I mean, really dedicated to me, not to one of the million other people who's surname is ............ Hans ( like Hans Andersen), but fully credited to myself? Well, I have some great news.! That tune exists: !Song For Linda, Nelly, Frank and Hans. Although I have to share the title with three more people, I'm really part of the tune title. It's a composition from Juan Pablo Carkvenik, an Argentine guitar player. I didn't recognize the language on the first track; it isn't Dutch or Afrikaans and it doesn't sounds familiar with any Euroean language I guess, or it should be Finnish or Albanian. The one who suggested Polynesian or Hawaiian ..... maybe he's right, but as most music of this album is African made, maybe this is some rare local Zambian dialect, pronounced backwards ........ I liked the selections on your first discs, but could only guess that the theme for this first CD must have been the alto saxophone. I did of course recognize Body and Soul and found some tracks that remind me of Lee Konitz and Jackie McLean, but as I understand most tracks are played by African musicians, these guesses must be wrong. I'm anxious to learn the thru players for this selection, as it contains music that made me anxious !! Keep swinging Durium

2005. Read my Rodney Jones web log contribution Keep swinging Durium How can it be 2005??? Kirkland died in 1998. Per the Savant website: "In 1983 four young men got together to record a CD's worth of music they had fermenting inside their imaginations. Young and filled with energy they played like there was no tomorrow. In fact there were to be many tomorrows for these young men and each of them went on to make their mark in the jazz world. Each joined the ranks of the masters of their generation. The present CD, "Dreams and Stories" documents the collaboration of four soon-to-be greats in the early flowering of their careers. The young men? They were guitarist Rodney Jones, pianist Kenny Kirkland, bassist Marc Johnson and drummer Jeff Watts. This is the music they made at those prophetic sessions back in 1983 -- music full of hopes, dreams and creativity." You're right - the liner notes of this CD suggests 2005 as it gives no recording date ( 1983). In his last words Rodney dedicates " the album to Kenny Kirkland and John Lewis, who both passed away too soon." Strange that there is no recording date. Thanks for your remarks !! Never heard of him. He should stop smoking. Very unhealthy. Even if it gives him a halo. I wonder what kind of guitar that is. Hagstrom maybe? Does he also wear white socks with sandals? You can listen and see him playing at my web log Keep swinging Durium

Choro Brasil Scandinavia This band brought me the so-called Choro fever two years ago at a concert in Copenhagen. Since that concert I researched this great Brazilian music style, which has a lot in common with jazz music. Thanks to the Choro Music Web Log I found a lot of information about this music style in English as I can't read Portuguese. Last night the 100th contribution was posted by Jo. 100ste Choro Music Weblog Keep swinging Durium
