Durium

DIZZY GILLESPIE 10 CD Membran Box I purchased myself a cheap 10 CD box of Dizzy Gillespie released by Membran. The only inforation these indivdual CDs contain (no booklet inside) is the track lists. Although I have some experience with research it seems impossible to find out what tracks have been used. While researching CD 3 I learned that some titles seem to be unknown ( like Are You All Reet? or are wrong. That each track seems to be from an indivdual session, so never three or four tunes in line all from the same session and I found it striking that I found a reasonable number of hits for French (Paris) live appearances. Has some of you researched this rather new 10CD box? Can someone indicate me what the source is for these recordings? CRUMB I have a copy of the CD ( RYKODISC RCD 10322) with the Original Soundtrack of the 1995 R. Crumb documentary CRUMB The discographical information is marginal. Some tracks seem to be played by R. Crumb himself, some seem original, piano roll or 78rpm, others by musicians like Craig Ventresco (and his Bo Grumpus). Has someone ever researched the track list for discographical information? I listened to your selection and really like it, but couldn't label any of them. When I read the commends of my fellow list members they often think that Dutchmen are responsable for some of this weird stuff. I agree we have a lot of good musicians, especially in the more experimental and free improvised jazz forms. I heard Misha Mengelberg playing last weekend in Rotterdam and he was pretty good. I heard Ernst Reijseger last winter and I can't remember when I heard Han Bennink for the last time. The piano player on several Monkish-like tunes could be Michiel Braam, but on track 3 I also thought about Brad Mehldau or Jean-Michel Pilc and track 8 brought Monty Alexander with Jeff Hamilton and John Clayton in mind.
