  1. Names & Numbers released a Capitol Discography by Michel Ruppli (and Cuscuna?) on CD-ROM some years ago. I guess that's the most reliable source you can get for Nat King Cole. F
  2. Thank you for the heads-up! F
  3. I've asked at Hoffman's forums and the errors seem to be universal (). Someone suggested ripping the DVD with DVD-Shrink. F
  4. Hello CD9, #6: yes, there's some digital skipping from 1:07 to 1:15 (loudest at 1:15) , of the kind you get when the disk or the lens are not clean. My disk is clean, but it has a tiny black spot embedded in the plastic (definitely not external surface). DVD 2: yes, mine jumps back to the main menu when the film is at 1:19:01, when Cole says "... at home, and that coun[cut]". Bugger. F
  5. I just saw this! Will do later on. F
  6. I got my Grant in an HMV sale when those were worth skipping a morning at work. I don't think it's a CD-R, and it was an unlikely boot, given that it was published by BMG (their New Zealand division all right, but still). As Ken said, a bit of an ego-trip by Grant, that one. F
  7. I just put a review of this up in my blog. Regarding the differences between Grant 1997 and Resonance 2016, the takes of the following included in the Grant are not in the Resonance: All My Yesterdays Low Down Willow Weep for Me There are some other minor things. although generally the sound is better in the Resonance (fuller, better mixed). Nothing's lost if you don't have the Grant, IMHO, except for Thad Jones's solo on "Willow..." which I prefer over the one on the Resonance. F
  8. Got it from Amazon.de for €54.36 (regular, cheapest shipping inc.). I ordered it on the 28th at 21:38 and got it in London on the 29th at 11:50. That's under 15 hours delivery time. PS Haven´t opened it yet, but it looks great. There's either not too much promo about it, or I have completely missed it.
  9. That would have been a good one, with some stuff never before issued on CD. It's only four years to the 60th anniversary anyway. F
  10. Spanish papers report that Toussaint died last night in Madrid, Spain, after his gig at Teatro Lara. He felt unwell and had two consecutive heart attacks. He died at Hospital Fundación Jiménez Díaz. Diario El Mundo (in Spanish). F
  11. Is that list in the chronological order of the recording dates? I've put the albums in the same order as they come in the box according to the Italian site, but yes, they were recorded in that order too according to this. F PS: According to Wikipedia, they were also released in that order, except Moto Grosso Feio, which came out after Odyssey... Etcetera and Soothsayer weren't released until years later. Note that the Shorter box only carries a thin booklet with no liner notes, only discography and tiny reproductions of original LP covers. F

  16. The newly reissued Ornette Coleman box at Atlantic, Beauty Is a Rare Thing, for £8.14 at Amazon UK. According to the description, Link F
  17. I read both parts a few days back and was very impressed, especially since the writer is not older than 24. F
  18. Yes. They come from George Avakian's collection - my guess is that these were found when they moved his and his wife's papers to NYPL (link). Before this, there was only one alternate from that session ("Shoe Shine Boy", IIRC). I'm really looking forward to the alternate of "Lady Be Good". F
  19. Pretty sure all Keynote sides on which Lester appeared will be included. I just sent a followup note asking about the Savoy sides (per jazztrain's remark), and what the Goodman sides specifically would be... will post once I hear back. There will be a single disc of Sony-licensed material. In addition to having so many of Young's best recordings gathered in a single set, I'm really looking forward to reading Loren Schoenberg's notes for this... he did a great job (as he always does) with Mosaic's last Prez outing. Thanks to both. The Savoys tend to slip my mind. (of Prez's studio recordings, I got those last). F
  20. Thanks, Ghost! One question, though: I guess that they will include the Keynotes with Johnny Guarnieri too? Do you know? By the look of it, it's going to be all Lester Young under Universal's umbrella plus the three alternates from the Jones-Smith Inc. session (hence the no-duplication with regard to the previous Lester Young Mosaic). This would make this set the first to combine recordings from different vaults (Universal/Sony) in many years, no? For me it's buy first, sort out the duplication later. F
  21. New box from Italy, although it looks like it'll be redundant for most people here. Herbie Hancock - The Blue Note Albums If the specs are correct, the CDs are identical to most recent (RVG) reissues, except for the missing alternate take of "Mimosa" in Inventions and Dimensions. Albums included are Takin' Off My Point of View Inventions and Dimensions Empyrean Isles Maiden Voyage Speak Like A Child The Prisoner F
  22. Taub was the maiden name of Esther, the Bihari's mother. According to Wikipedia, Joe Bihari was "Joe Josea", Jules Bihari was "Jules Taub", and Sam Bihari was "Sam Ling". As for who wrote "Three O'Clock Blues", the book in The Vintage Years, the 4-CD set by Ace records, credits it to "Riley B. King, Jules Taub", but in the accompanying paragraph it says F
  23. Thanks, T.D., I've added that to the list.
