  13. Tenorio Jr - Embalo Sergio Mendes & Bossa Rio - Você Ainda Não Ouviu Nada!
  14. it seems that the partners of whatmusic had a big fight and the activities are very slow right now. Durval Ferreira has also terminated his relationship with them it seems at least that the artists were paid for the reissues and their remasterings are good the releases of Copa 7, Edison Machado & Dom Salvador Trio are now OOP on CD according to their website. i think they are not overpriced in UK but here in Rio i should pay between 20,66-26,33 USD to have them Marcus
  15. nope Jim, far from this.... MCO
  16. Evan, make that experience a little bit expensive MCO
  17. sorry Jim but this i dunno... if you like them maybe you should also check "Os Cariocas" and "Quarteto em Cy" (only composed by girls) Marcus
  18. Jim, this is the one i got very cheap 3 weeks ago and it's very very good. i´m sure you would like it it seems there is another album from them released in Japan but i´m not sure Milton Nascimento was still on the band Marcus
  19. got these today: Julinho - O Som do Julinho Salvador Trio - S/T both are truly great!!!! MCO
  20. with lots of time to listen to some music i spent the whole day listening to brazilian soul/funk. i don't remember this genre to be covered here so i think it would be nice to put some lines and indications about it first of all it' s one of my favorite musical styles blending the american funk with our culture and our groove some fine recommendations: kinda hard to find but Copa 7 was one of the finest bands in the 70's and their hit "Mulher Absoluta" is a killer!! Banda Black Rio is one of the masters of brazilian soul/jazz/funk. they only have 3 albums but they are milestones in Brazil: Maria Fumaça, Saci Perere & Gafieira Universal Tim Maia was the first to develop the brazilian soul/funk. he recorded several albums during his career and was one of the most powerful voices that i ever heard in my life. Tim was a master performing live with his band "Vitoria Regia" and most of the finest studio musicians were discovered by him Cassiano is also very important with a classic recording in 1975 "Cu Ban Soul 18 Kilates" other names are Gerson King Combo, Uniao Black, Tony Tornado, Lady Zu, Dom Mita, Dom Salvador of course Jorge Ben fits into this category and the next generation who keeps the flame alive is composed by Ed Motta, Claudio Zoli, Fernanda Abreu, Wilson Simoninha, Skowa & Sandra de Sá Marcus
  21. Jim, are you familiar with the Quarteto Sambacana? Marcus
  22. JIm, Aquarela do Brasil is truly great. i had this vynil long time ago when i was living in Africa. Ary Barroso is one of the most important composers of Brazil and the tracklist is fantastic. Gal was at the peak of her powers in the 80's so i think you're gonna love it Profana is not that good. Vaca Profana & Topazio are the best songs composed by Caetano & Djavan respectively. i don't think you're gonna enjoy the rest of it Grande Circo Mistico is a soundtrack for a ballet and artists such as Milton, Tim, Gil & Simone are perfoming there. Beatriz, one of the classic compositions from Chico & Edu is there and A Historia de Lily Braun is very good too. i don't think you 're gonna love this one too Caymmi 70 anos is a tribute to his work released by Fundaçao Nacional de Arte in 1984 to celebrate his 70th birthday Terra dos Passaros seems to be Toninho's first solo effort and 2 of his classic compositions are there: Diana & Beijo Partido. i love his compositions and his playing too Casa de Brinquedos is from a TV show in 1983 and should be horrendous MPB4 is one of the greatest vocalese groups in Brazil. not jazzy at all but they are very very good. the album "Adivinha o que é" is dedicated to the kids so don't expect that much from this one the compilations "A Arte de" are always very good and most of them have been re-released on CD last month if you need anything else please let me know Marcus
  23. Disc 2 is really good!! i just recognize some tunes and it's always good to hear some Monk track 3 and 6 are my favorites on this one Marcus
  24. listened to disc 1 this morning and ballads are not my passion but thanks Tom for an enjoyable compilation. my favorite of disc 1 is track 12 Marcus
  25. ordered this morning: Stanley Turrentine + Lou Donaldson Marcus
