JIm, Aquarela do Brasil is truly great. i had this vynil long time ago when i was living in Africa. Ary Barroso is one of the most important composers of Brazil and the tracklist is fantastic. Gal was at the peak of her powers in the 80's so i think you're gonna love it Profana is not that good. Vaca Profana & Topazio are the best songs composed by Caetano & Djavan respectively. i don't think you're gonna enjoy the rest of it Grande Circo Mistico is a soundtrack for a ballet and artists such as Milton, Tim, Gil & Simone are perfoming there. Beatriz, one of the classic compositions from Chico & Edu is there and A Historia de Lily Braun is very good too. i don't think you 're gonna love this one too Caymmi 70 anos is a tribute to his work released by Fundaçao Nacional de Arte in 1984 to celebrate his 70th birthday Terra dos Passaros seems to be Toninho's first solo effort and 2 of his classic compositions are there: Diana & Beijo Partido. i love his compositions and his playing too Casa de Brinquedos is from a TV show in 1983 and should be horrendous MPB4 is one of the greatest vocalese groups in Brazil. not jazzy at all but they are very very good. the album "Adivinha o que é" is dedicated to the kids so don't expect that much from this one the compilations "A Arte de" are always very good and most of them have been re-released on CD last month if you need anything else please let me know Marcus

-
Quarteto Sambacana - Muito Pra Frente i got this one 2 weeks ago and it's very interesting 4 singers harmonizing with original songs written by Marcos de Castro who also did the arrangements for the disc. recorded in 1965 the solo vocalist is Milton Nascimento. i would never guessed that it was him singing!!!! the band have guests such as JT Meirelles playing flute & alto, Geraldo Vespar (acoustic guitar) among others there also some strings on the disc so it's a blended mixture of bossa/jazz/samba with voices and strings Marcus

i was highly addicted to Elis back in 1980-1981. my favorite albums are: O fino da bossa vols 1-3 (this comes from the popular TV that she & Jair Rodrigues hosted back in the 60's) Em pleno verao Essa mulher Falso brilhante Fino do fino (Elis & Zimbo Trio) Saudade do Brasil in 1999 a huge boxset containing 21 albums was released she was known as Pimentinha and that means "little pepper" literally i think her daughter is just OK but it was a huge success here last year Marcus

Should I stay in Philly or move to Seattle?
marcoliv replied to Peter Johnson's topic in Miscellaneous - Non-Political
Peter, i can't help you about the places but if you stay in Philly you´ll have Gail complaining about it and we all know how painful is a woman complaining.... Marcus -
i got the Elis & Tom today. the remastering job is superb on the cd and on the dvd-video portion. i can't say anything about the dvd-audio side since i don't have a player. the bonus tracks are very good so an upgrade is recommended Marcus
