Well known problem.

Not with this manager. Their preparation was disastrous and the first match was a confirmation of the poor state the team's in. If this is the situation, why do you think he was appointed???

I was extremely disappointed from the 2ed game last night. Although Rod van Nistelrooy eventually delivered the goods, what we saw yesterday might not be enough for the Dutch team if they want to qualify. They still have a lot of work to do.

At the beginning of March, I spent several days in Paris and since Paris is considered as one of temples of jazz, I had to go and listen to some jazz music… One night I went to listen to Marc Copland at the Sunside club but the more interesting story was the second night: Gordon Beck trio at the Duc des Lombards. To be honest, I was not so familiar with Mr. Beck and his recordings. All I knew was one of his recordings as a side man of Jean-Luc Ponty and the duet he recorded with Phil Woods. Gordon Beck played with two young musicians, both unknown to me: Bruno Rousselet (bass) and Philippe Soirat (drums). This was one of the best gigs I have attended, at least during the last years. Gordon Beck is a great pianist with a great technic and the other two also made a great contribution. Gordon Beck's right hand playing reminded me from time to time Don Pulen's playing but maybe it is only my sick imagination. Mr. Beck played some of the compositions included in his new release: Not the Last Waltz. As this album was released app two weeks ago I ordered it and as you can imagine, it fulfills all my expectations: a great trio with a very original and interesting music. I recommend.

Black fire is one the Andrew Hill's best recorded sessions. This is the 1st session on the oop Mosaic set. I'll buy Lee Morgan's Sixth Sense and Horace Silver's Serenade to a Soul Sister. All the rest I got already.

There is no easy prey Brownie. But I'll continue to cross my fingers for the English team.

This evening is the kick off!!! I asked my dear wife to forgive me, but this event is going to keep me busy for the next few weeks. Even jazz will be pushed off to 2ed priority. I hope the English team will do it this time. And this evening: Portugal Vs Greece.

All three artists are celebrating their Birthday today. Geri Alan was born on 1957, Chick Corea was born on 1941 and Marcus Belgrave on 1936. Geri Alan is one of important pianist of the contemporary jazz. During the last year I put my hands on almost everything she recorded and every time I listen to her I discover something new. I like specially her trio recordings with Haden & Motian. Marcus Belgrave is a little bit a riddle for me: Although he recorded with many artist as one of their sideman (and always sounds great!), he has almost not recorded as a leader and I think it's too bad. Did you know that Geri Alan was his student? According to the results, he did a very good job. I first discovered him when I was listening to Junko Onishi (Piano Quintet Suite) and later on to Horace Tapscott (Aiee! the Phantom). Anyway, happy birthday and all the best to all of them.

I ordered two CDs today: 1. Is It Really True. 2. Power Talk. Joanne Brackeen is a great pianist and so far she's never disappionted me.

I know it is a question of taste, but I prefer his Verve recordings over the BNs. If you can pick up the Verve box for a good price, do it.

This e-mail message has been received today from the Senators: Steve Lacy passed away on Friday, June 4th, 2004. He had been diagnosed with liver cancer last August, but maintained a vigorous teaching and performing schedule right up until last month. He slipped into a coma in the hospital on Wednesday and never regained consciousness. We will miss him so much.
