  1. Last time when I went to this festival was in 1995. During the past 9 years there were no attractions that could justify the investment of time & money. This year, for change, some first league artists are coming: THE WALT WEISKOPF NONET: Walt Weiskopf - Tenor Saxophone, Jim Snidero - Alto Saxophone, Scott Robinson - Baritone Saxophone, Joe Magnarelli – Trumpet, Conrad Herwig – Trombone, Charles Pillow – Flute, David Hazeltine – Piano, Doug Weiss – Bass, Billy Drummond – Drums CHARLES LLOYD Featuring Charles Lloyd – Saxophone, flute, Geri Allen – Piano, Eric Harland – Drums, Reuben Rogers – Bass THE CHARLIE HADEN AND JOHN SCOFIELD DUO Charlie Haden – Bass, John Scofield – Guitar Personally, I would like to see Haden cooperating with Geri Allen instead of Scofield. Unfortunately I have some other commitments (to my boss and to my wife, my other boss) so the jazz fans coming to Eilat and the artists will have to get along without me.
  2. Yes! And this thread also became too long for me to check it out...
  3. I live all my life in a relatively big city: Tel-Aviv, and I like it. In the past I spent one year in Texas: 3 month in San Antonio and all the rest in El-Paso. El-Paso is a small city in the middle of nowhere and a very boring place (but you can always cross the border to Juarez…). In general, I prefer the big cities over the small ones.
  4. I could not describe it better
  5. Novembar 1961 at the V.V. with John Coltane. Why??? Needless to explain.
  6. My favorite Ornette tune is Lonley Woman.
  7. I can't find anything special in his playing. many years ago I bought the duet he recorded with Chet Baker and beleive me, nothing to write home about. Not my cup of tea.
  8. Another great recording of MLW is Live at the Cookery. Not always I can agree with the AMG. This time the AMG is absolutely right. I'll add 0.5 star of my own to complete the AMG rating to 5 stars. beatiful music played by a great pianist.
  9. Try whiskey. That's what I do (single malt of course). The whiskey does a much better job… Maybe we have to open a thread "what is your preferred whiskey?".
  10. Two CDs I received today. The first one is one of favorite trio: Kuhn-Humair-Jenny Clark: Live @ Theatre de la Ville, Paris 1989. IMHO, this trio is one of the best of the last 20 years (Hiroshi, thank you again). The other one is African Suite for trio and string orchestra (Abdullah Ibrahim).
  11. Thank you for the info jazzbo.
  12. I hope one day peace will come to our tormented region and than I'll be able to go to Lebanon.
  13. Two tunes that come to my mind: Caravan, the drums playing of Roach is amazing, and Greensleeves by Coltrane.
  14. According to the search results there is no thread here dedicated to Teddy Wilson, so I'll raise the question: Any Teddy Wilson recommendation except of the Mosaic set? Few weeks ago I bought the 2 CDs set of the French label Fremeaux with Wilson recordings between 1933-1950 and I really enjoy it. I can imagine his recordings for Verve are his best trio recordings, but what about other formats like the orchestra he had during the 30's??? Thank you in advance.
  15. No more. When using this URL one is now redirected to the new interface. The same message: We apologize for the temporary connection delay. Please click the refresh button on your browser.
  16. You are probably right.
  17. I would like to trade 3 CDs: 1. Elvin Jones: At This Point in Time. 2. Sun Ra: Atlantis. 3. Gordon Beck: Reflections. New & sealed. 4. Miles Davis & Gil Evans: The immortal concert at the Carnegie Hall, May 19, 1961 (Giant of Jazz). I'm open to any offer. Please e-mail me.
  18. CDs liner is a real pain in the ass. My glasses can't help me anymore in this case. What I need in order to read it is a magnifying glass.
  19. Buddy Collette is my new discovery. Of course his name is not new for me. I know his name for years and the first time when I listened to him was app 5 years ago when I bought Chico Hamilton's Mosaic set. To be honest, I didn’t like his playing so much in this set. I think Paul Horn who replaced him in this group sounds much better and (of course) also Dolphy who replaced Horn. One of my last purchases was "A Tribute to Eric Dolphy: Joe Rosenberg's Affinity with Buddy Collette". Maybe the reason is that this session was recorded 35 years later but Collette sounds completely different: I think his sounds is better and he plays free, which I think is more suitable for him. His playing on * Fire Waltz* is amazing. Any other Buddy Collette recommendations? And what about Joe Rosenberg and Affinity? Are you familiar with their tribute to Ornette Coleman ? A Tribute to Eric Dolphy

    Hank Mobley

Today is Hank Mobley's birthday. Mobley was born on July 7, 1930 in Eastman, GA.
  21. Happy birthday and all the best.
  22. The Greek team is the champion, whether we like it or not. I don’t like it but who can argue with success? When I am going to see football games, I am doing it in order to see players like Ronaldo, Figo & Nedved and not because of teams like the Greek with a lot of tactic discipline. I will not pay even 1$ in order to see such a team
  23. Pharoah Sanders- Izipho Zam.
  24. Bet he'll overcome this. Oh ye. Tomorrow will be another day.
