  1. Of course he could sing. The problem is not him, it's me. I don’t like many players' singing: Also Chet Baker, Kenny Dorham, Clark Terry and even Louis Armstrong. All of them are much better as trumpet players and I prefer their playing over their singing. Correction: Armstrong can be deleted from this list. He's a better singer then the rest of the players I mentioned. But I still prefer his playing.
  2. I got his Complete Capitol Fifties Sessions. I like his playing but I cant stand his singing. He's such a great player, wht sould he sing????
  3. During the 70's, Andrew hill recorded not only for BN. In 1974 & 1975 he recorded 2 excellent sessions for SteepleChase: Invitation is a trio session with Chris White & Art Lewis and Divine Revelation is a quartet session with Jimmy Vass on alt & flute. Of course you can't even compare it to what hill recorded for BN, but very good music with Andrew Hill at his best and looking for new directions. Invitation Divine Revelation
  4. I first encountered his name in 86 when I learned photography & art history. HCB was one of the greatest photographers ever. He was not a studio photographer. Henri Cartier-Bresson was a street photographer and he could wait for hours for the decisive moment. This was his concept that inspired many people. "In whatever one does, there must be a relationship between the eye and the heart," he once said in a rare interview. If we look at his pictures, we see the relationship. RIP Henri Cartier-Bresson. Talking about photography, another great photographer is Robert Frank. Those of you who like HBC pictures will probably like also Robert Frank. The Ameicans
  5. I was debating for a long time whether to order this set or not. Eventually I decided to order the Fremeaux's compilation with Wilson's recordings between 1933-1950. After listening to TW's playing on this collection, I ordered also the Mosaic set. A great player. Now I am waiting… The Fremeaux's 2 CDs set:
  6. Happy Birthday Lon!!!
  7. I prefer Jarrett's recordings for Impulse over his ECM recordings. This quartet was one the best during the 70's and I think the whole set (actually 2 sets) is amazing. I can listen to it again and again.
  8. The weather in Tel-Aviv is much better then last week: still hot (~30c) but less humid. Only 50%. Last week it was 75%.
  9. This was my first Tapscott album. After listening to this one I've started to look for his other recordings. All I got so far is "Aiee! the Phantom" and "Thoughts of Dar Es Salaam". I'm still looking for his recordings. A great musician.
  10. Hank Jones : Talented Touch/Porgy and Bess
  11. Thanks ubu. Please be informed that Kenny Burrell is also celebrating today. Burrell was born on 31 July 1931 so he is 73 today.
  12. Ubu, Can you tell me about it???
  13. Hank Jones is celebrating today his 86 birthday. Mr. Jones is one of my all times favorite pianists. His biography is not less than the jazz history. Many great pianists mentioned his name as their main influence. Among theses pianists you can find Tommy Flanagan, Barry Harris and Sir Roland Hanna. I wish Mr. Jones good health and all the best. Now I am going to listen to "Lazy Afternoon".
  14. Last time I visited Amsterdam was in 1992. I remember that every CDs store I entered had a very nice jazz dept. I wish this was the situation here....
  15. David, I can imagine you are talking about the "Live at Mills College" and about "The Woodstock Recital". For me also Marilyn Crispell is first of all free jazz player but it is very interesting to listen to the other side of her musical personality.
  16. Two days ago I received the new ECM release of Marilyn Crispell: Storyteller. I have been a Crispell fan for years, long before she started to record for ECM. I am familiar with most of her recordings for Leo and Music & Arts. Sometimes it is unbelievable that the same pianist is playing on both recordings. It is so different from each other. How do you prefer Crispell: playing free jazz and avant-garde (with Peter Brotzman, Drake & Joseph Jarman) or do you like more her expressive style like she plays when she records for ECM??? BTW: Her recording on ECM reminds me from time to time Paul Bley's playing.
  17. Coltrain: The Classic Quartet RRK- Complete Mercury Sonny Rollins- Complete RCA Jarrett-Impulse recordings

  19. I have no idea. I found it on the net without any information.
