  1. Easy Living is a great album. Enrico Rava and his quintet sounds great. If you like Rava, you must listen to it. And if you dont like Rava, after listening to it you will change your mind.
  2. I had the honor and the pleasure to see Dewey Redman 5 or 6 years ago here in Tel-Aviv with a group of local players. Dewey was great. I think The Ear of the Behearer will find the way to my CD player this evening.
  3. Ditto. Ditto.
  4. RIP Mr. LaPorta.
  5. From Time to Time Free I love Joachim Kuhn. It is not easy to find CDs of CMP since this label does not exist for years, but eventually I found this CD in one of the 2ed hand stores of the net.
  6. Thanks John. How could I forget that both groups are from Chicago... I still have a lot tp learn....
  7. Recently I've been listening a lot to the AEC and to Sun Ra & his Arkestra. The more I listen to these two groups I come to a conclusion that Lester Bowie and his friend listened a lot to Sun Ra's recordings and took some musical ideas from them. Of course the AEC continued to develop Sun Ra's idea and to push it to the edge of the avant-Garde, but I think the influences are clear. I'll give you an example: Please listen to *Other Planes of There* and compare it to any recording of the AEC from the late 60s. OK, the AEC was a pianoless and smaller group, but too many times the music sounds the same. Do you agree with me or it is only my imagination???
  8. Tough life Barak . I would like to vote for two albums: Study and Basin, but since it is not possible, my vote will go to Study.
  9. The new Enrico Rava album on ECM.
  10. I bought the US version and the sound is very good. It is much better than on the ZYX version of the solo masterpieces that I have.
  11. From time to time the "Djangos" have a used copy of this set. You can add it to your *notify me* list. Take a look here.
  12. And what about the new SteepleChase 8 CDs box with The Complete Trio & Quartet Studio Recordings??? Any comments on that???
  13. My favorite Carter's album is Dance of the Love Ghosts. A lot of Charlie Mingus and Ornette Coleman's influences can be easily identified. A great album.
  14. Thank you Late for your recommendations. I am going to look for the CDs you mentioned.
  15. Absolutely agree.
  16. This morning I ordered "Youngblood". I found it in one of the 2ed hand stores of the net.

    John Carter

Clarinet is not my favorite instrument in jazz, but John Carter is a different story. Of course I like his playing but more than that I like his compositions and especially his 5 suites project about the history of the black Americans. I find his compositions very sophisticated and the music sounds very emotional. I am not such an expert in the jazz history but in my humble opinion it was one of the interesting and important projects of 80s. Marty Ehrlich, Bobby Bradford, Richard Davis, Benny Powell & James Newton provide more reasons to listen to these five suites. Anybody else share with me the same opinion???
  18. RIP dear Mr. Jones.
  19. Many pianists consider Beethoven sonatas and the Well Tempered Clavier as their bible. To the best of knowledge, Barenboim recorded Beethoven sonatas 2 or even 3 timed in his career. Which recording do you have, the early or the late one??? BTW, I have the complete sonatas by Wilhelm Kempff, another great pianist.

    Antonio Hart

In my humble opinion, Antonio Hart is one of the best among the young sax players today. I first encountered his name when I was listening to Roy Hargrove early recordings. The result of his collaboration with Hargrove is amazing. His sax is spitting fire. I like very much the tribute he recorded for Cannonbal and Woody Shaw and also his recording for Impulse- Here I stand. On June 8, Downtown Sound 1003 (to be honest, I have never heard about this label) will release his new album. According to the jazzmataz, this is the line up: Antonio Hart, alto & soprano saxophones, flute, synthesizer/Jimmy Heath, tenor saxophone/Michael Mossman, trumpet/Shedrick Mitchell, piano, Fender Rhode, Hammond B-3/Lonnie Plaxico, acoustic & electric bass/Billy Kilson, drums/Renato Thoms, percussion/Nasheet Waits, drums/ Maya Azucena, vocals. Sounds very interesting, not only because of the line up, but also to see what directions Antonio Hart is going to. Here I Stand For Cannonball & Woody
  21. Absolutely agree with you, but my favorite is Far East. I am just listening to it right now...
  22. Maybe be this is the same woman in a different light conditions???
  23. Columbia people could be the world champions in marketing. After all the addicted (like me) bought it, they are going to sell it to the rest of the world. I am working in sales and I can learn something form Columbia.

    Reunion

Another new release that worth paying attention to is "Reunion" of the Art Ensemble of Chicago. This session was recorded live in Rome on January 2003 for the group's 35th Anniversary. The AEC always sounds better (in my humble opinion) when Joseph Jarman plays with them. This time Jarman is there together with Roscoe Mitchell, Malachi Favors & Don Moye.
  25. Thank you Brownie for your quick reply.
