    Power cords

Or tell yourself that with $ 300 power chord your records sound better and you enjoy them more. At the end we all have to die, so who am I to tell you what is your happiness? Are you happier without $ 300 and a new power chord? Do you feel yourself smarter then all the audiophile sheeps, saving $ 300? Happiness is subjective, no psychoacoustic or scientific reasons. Life is too short for such questions.
  2. Damn, my wife said "Stop jazz, I listened to it all the afternoon", that isn't true, I spun only FOUR records. BTW Any lawyer expert on homicide or divorce among you?
  3. Kenny Dorham Septet featuring Cannonball Adderley - Blue Spring - Riverside small label DG mono. Funny Cover
  4. don't think it would have made much of a difference, he should have been shot like in 1934 or 1939 at the latest - always had difficulties to really appreciate the Stauffenberg group, i mean, they died for what was essentially a good thing, but i don't think they (mainly) did it for the right reasons (stop the holocaust, prevent ww2 from happening); it was rather that they were shocked at how madly hitler organized his war (a thing which shouldn't actually suprise anyone who heard hitler talk for more than 30 seconds - the guy was obviously mad) Yep, it might seem some sort of revenge for having stolen the power of old prussian militar aristocracy. At first all those 'Vons' Marshalls, Generals and Colonels looked at Hitler with sympathy, like the man who could restore old hierarchy and wipe out all socialists and democrats, afterwards when the war was already lost they fight back. It could be an interpretation.
  5. Yes - that has been the cause for the closing of pretty well all of them. At least the ones in popular and lucrative city centre sites. Usually they closed to make way for ladies fashion outlets. The decline of western civilization. Should we dress a panda's costume and ask for WWF's help or a whale's one and ask for Greenpeace's help?
  6. Damn, why did my fave vinyl shop shut down! Not a good shop in the whole capital. Man, I live in a Third World country. It took some digging out Porcy. In a shop full of crap LPs by the likes of Demis Rousos, Showadywaddy and the Wurzels there was a forlorn stack of 50s original jazz which I suspect must have come from a deceased fan. In the middle of it all was this particular gem. Unfortunately, most of the rest either I had or covers or vinyl was fairly trashed (an Art Farmer 'Aztec Suite' for example - maybe I should go back for that one?) The point over here is that I've got only an handful of places to dig. I suspect that the main reason is the high rent they have to pay. Vinyls need room.

Maybe you need to study psychoacoustics as well. BTW Psychoacoustics works 'au reverse' too, if you hardly believe that power chords don't influence the sound you'd note any difference even if they play two different mastering/mixing of the same tracks.
  9. Stanley Turrentine - DEARLY BELOVED - BN NY mono.

    Power cords

Do you think they were using $300 power cords on the equipment to record that? I don't, but in the broadcasting studios where I work, they didn't spare on power chords, line conditioner or interconnects or digital cables thought they don't buy stuff in Hi-Fi shop. I mean that there are std cheap power chords and good std power chords, I think you'd call it "Hospital Grade" in U.S., maybe.
  11. Who knows, maybe the war would have turnd into West/East conflict.
  12. Give me a call when someone will found on eBay 'AllenLowe for Dummies'.
  13. Hard to tell with reissues. Basically you should buy only pre 1980 pressings. I think that in used vinyl market you should go for what you find, not for what you want: there are lots of great used records under 20 $. I mean that if you look for original BN or Prestige they will rip you off. Overseas we go for german and dutch reissues of the Big Guns, cheap and excellent pressings.
  14. Brother Jack McDuff - SCREAMIN' - Prestige, Bergenfeld yellow label, mono.

    Power cords

Your observations are most likely colored, but probably by how much the cables cost. Give me a sound, scientific reason why 6 feet of expensive power cable would make a difference. Well about scientific reasons, back in the eighties, the obsession of audiophiles and the manufacturers and engineers were mesurements, frequency response, and the Holy Grail: ZERO DISTORTION, lather on the very same guys discovered that an archaic technology like vacuum tube with a distortion of 3% is much more pleasant and musical then a SS amp with a distortion of 0.00001%. I know that they found scientific explanation for it (afterwards oubviously): harmonic distortion, etc, but like someone said: Noah, a lone amateur, built the ark. It took a large team of professionals to build the Titanic. And we all know how it went.

    Power cords

My thought and experience. Though "fancy" power chords, interconnects and speakers cables are useful in order to avoid mutual interferences, if they are well insulated. Behind my system there is a jungle of cables, no way to avoid the contact among them. It happened to me that I had to give back interconnect to the shop because they got all the interference from other cables.

    Power cords

I bought fancy power cords years ago, when I lived in an apartment with a awful wiring system, and it helped, at least is what I thought back then. Placebo effect? Maybe. Then I added a good and expensive power conditioner, and it helped much more. In the new house I have a new and excellent wiring system, but I already bought all the stuff for the 'clean current'. Never tried any experiment with the old std power chords. What I noted was that some kind of power supply, like 'switching mode', (my Linn gears) are rather insensible at power chords compared to traditional power supply, tubed and toroidal transformer. Though I think that any good component has (or should have) a good enginered power supply in order to minimize the bad influence coming from house wiring system through power chords.
  18. ...but I have almost all of Herbie's album, I mean, you know, 'Maiden Voyage', 'Death Wish' 'Head Hunter'...is it OK?
  19. Well...uhu...mmmh...me? I don't like charts.
  20. Well... comparing 200 different remasterings/pressings of "Hotel California" should have the very same effects: bad trips IMHO. You don't mean actually listening to that thing 200 times??? Buddha said There are three roads to Nirvana: 200 times "Hotel California", Doctor Hoffmann's medicine or a life of meditation. I am fine with the meditation, but everybody should find his own way.
  21. This afternoon few monos I got recently: Jimmy Smith At The Organ Vol 1 BN 1551, 47 west DG Grant Green - Green Street - BN NY DG Don Ellis - Essence - PJ (I didn't know it, great catch)
