At least 21 dead at Virginia Tech

I think that you interpreted correctly the Constitution's emendament about arms. I think that at times the proposal of it was exactly to prevent the taking over from undemocratic federal government against single states. That is pretty obvious, considering that Jefferson and the Others lived in an epoch were undemocratic centralized Kingdoms ruled the world. A federation of armed free states (with the milicia) was the better cure for that. And the right to carry arm has more to do with it then with personal selfdefense. How ironic that Hamilton won the battle against Jefferson in the long run and today we have the more invasise and centralizad federal control over the country but the freedom to enteer in a shop and buy an assault gun. About the NBC video broadcasting though I would be surprised if Cho wouldn't had doing something like this. In the common perception nothing has happened if is not on the Medias. In Italy we faced a growing tendence between teenagers, and even youngers, to put on youTube their bravados, filmed with cellphones. Nor that bravados had not happened before, but now they have a place to show them. And, working in the media's world, I would be surprise even more if they wouldn't broadcasted it. Morals in the Media is rarer then a good KennyG record. -

With very same argument I could support the legal growing of opium and cocaine in the Appalachian Mountains. Yes, you could -- but you'd better have a side job of sorts (Ostrich farming? Ski Guide? ) to help cover your bills 'cause you'll be the first Coca & Poppy grower to go broke trying to 'farm' in the cool lufty heights of Mt Washington or Mt Adams. Would SoCal better for the climate? Or maybe GWB's ranch? The stuff could help the Guy about having some bright eye in His speeches. -

Why? It's perfectly rational. Let's start with how Rousseau's 'Social Contract' -- you relinquish certain rights in exchange for personal protection by the state -- is seriously flawed. Now dialing Blacksburg S. VA........ring, ring, ring.... No state undertakes that, Weizen. The arguments for and against gun control are almost certainly irrelevant in relation to an incident like this. Talk about gun control in relation to armed robbery or drive-by shootings. Britain has probably the most restrictive gun control regime in the world, but it doesn't stop incidents like those at Hungerford in 1987 http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Hungerford_Massacre or Dunblane in 1996 http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Dunblane_Massacre Basically, in these cases, we're dealing with nutters, not rational people like criminals and gang members. MG Exactly. -

Why? It's perfectly rational. Let's start with how Rousseau's 'Social Contract' -- you relinquish certain rights in exchange for personal protection by the state -- is seriously flawed. Now dialing Blacksburg S. VA........ring, ring, ring.... If Hobbes, Locke and Rousseau were right you're are living in a primitive and unefficient society. If they were wrong, I don't see any rationale reason for not solving any argument like a western movie, the fastes is right, the slowest is wrong, and dead. And you could spare a lot of tax money for jails and courts. Now you can dial Blacksburg and ask to parents what they think about firearms... Ah, yes, move the thread in the political forum. -

Could President G.W. Bush's love for pretzels be the reason for the Iraq invasion? Salt overdose? And most importantly: what did Hitler eat? I didn't read the whole article, nor I am a MD, but it's pretty obvious, from my point of view, that more often then we think, the lack of some element in our body, vitamins, minerals, ecc, or the overdose of others, may cause some imbalance in our methabolism that could affect the brain ie our behavior. Every good psychiatric should start his therapy with physical analisys of the patient, his food habits, ecc. Carbohydrate are known as flat psychotrope susbstance, like chocolat, alchool, drugs or benzodiazerines are strong psychotrope susbstance. Said that, I found pretty idiotic to relate a specific behavior to a specific food. The food habits of Hitler and her Feld Marshall Goering couldn't be more different and they both acted like criminals.

Which of those tuning feet optons would you use on an LP12? My LP12 came with the Trampolin base board and feet but in the end I removed the feet and put on some alternatives. The improvement was immediate ! I don't know at the moment. I will borrow some of them from my dealer and will test them w/o removing the trampolin. I'll let you know.

Really interesting topic. I am sorry that my poor english prevents me to fully join it. Anyway I didn't read the Hobsbawm's book. I remember I read something closely related at this issue in one of my philosophy courses at university, maybe Todorov, the research was about how a culture represents themselves.

Correct, if you can, I can't listen to music in my video editing studio.

Maybe you should ask yourself: Am I impressed by the iPod's sound quality? My thought is that you can hook an iPod to a 100K sound system and it will always sound like an iPod. iPod is great for its convenience and a lot of other things, but not for its sound. Use it for that and listen to cd, vinyl, Sacd, Dvd when you are comfortably seated in your house or, if you want really listen to iPod at home, just hook it to your system. Frankly I don't see any reason to buy a dedicated system for iPod.

Basically all of the Shepp and Pharohas' outputs on Impulse! and ABC Impulse! are easily and cheapely available in their original vinyl form, if you are really interested in it.

Putting some order in my library I stumbled in this book: David Bordwell "The Classical Hollywood Cinema: Film Style and Mode of Production to 1960", a ponderous, but absolutely essential, reading for everybody seriously interested in Cinema. It was one of the texts at my History of Cinema courses at University. Warmly reccomended to every patient cinephile.

I presume that these could be nice upgrades if you have a twenty years, or more, old LP 12 and you want to renew it, but my Ekos, that I paid 2.7 K, is four years old, so in the trade I would loose around 2 K, or more, and the trampolin , I am going to replace it with one of these: http://www.combak.net/feet&bases/FEET&BASES.htm even if it costs me 700 euros more

All this story reminds me the final sequence of "The Great Lebowsky"

Sadly, I have a Linn arm, and their new upgrades for LP 12 definitely cost too many bucks: the sub-chassis is around 3K and the new arm around 4.2 K, in euros... http://www.knekt.com/spec_sound/product_di...FTOKEN=65509988 http://www.knekt.com/spec_sound/product_di...NavBar=Playback

I'll look for Schnabel and Fischer. Thanks! BTW I have a Michelangeli's live on DG (cd) playing n 20 e 27, but i don't play it very often.

Hey Brownie, you can bring back back your copy from the safety!

BTW Presumibly your record doesn't fullfill the conventional RIAA equalization, that it dated later, so if you want to hear in a proper way you should also get some sort of equalizator (or record it on a cd and work on it). Surely Chuck knows it better then me.

Don't talk to me about Britons buying holyday homes over here...we never thought about terrorism for solving the problem in Tuscany.. Terrorism is essential behaviour when there's no one there to listen to protests. MG About Tuscany at the University I had a friend whose father and grandfather were farmers in Tuscany. Their attitude, as usually with farmer, was investing in land (and old farms that were in the land). When the Chiatishire's rave exploded from mid-eighties, my friend became rich, and I mean very rich, because of that old attitude of saving of his anchestors. He moved from medic degree to business administration because of that. And he was the first of the family that went to college.

In Italy we faced a radical change in term of loan and saving habits in the last 50 years. After the WWII, Italy was a poor country, our fathers basically lost everything. A generation of hard working people and immigrants build up the richess of the country with hard working and saving. My father's rule was 'don't buy what you can't afford', plain and simple. And they were saving money, remembering the war's bad times, they thought that you should always have a reserve for bad time. At the end of the seventies, common people slowly moved towards loans for everything: houses, cars, ecc. Today people get loans even for holydays or for a new LCD tv. Basically more then two third of italian family have a debt. Personally I think that this system is rotten and senseless. In order to rise the economy common people have to buy tons of useless things, replace car, replace tv, fridge, otherwise industries break down and people could loose their jobs. At the same time people is pushed to get loans because they couldn't afford things. That is totally insane, unless you are a CEO or a stockholder of a bank.

Maybe you intended your post as ironic, not at all, look at April program of La Casa Del Jazz in Rome: two large ensembles in less then 30 days: http://www.casajazz.it/canale.asp?id=724 ...and I bet that among the huge number of summer's jazz festivals in Italy we'll see a lot of "big band"...maybe jazz is dead in U.S., but over here it's in good shape.
