  1. How many of these once board members have pissed you off in one way or another? I only recall a few.
  2. Lee Konitz opens a week at the Vanguard Tuesday March 31. When I called to make a reservation I asked who is playing with him. I was told the club didn't even know. Is that possible? Anyone have any clues who the other musicians may be?
  3. Brazilian waxing, how many of us here do this?
  4. That was on the BN board. One of our regulars said something pretty ugly about her and the band, and it significantly contributed to the shut down of the board there. It was? It is all so foggy today.
  5. I used to take pleasure in a trip to one of the large music outlets such as Tower Records and even Barnes and Nobel and browser through the jazz section. There use to be an enjoyment pulling a recording out of the bin and looking it over and making a mental note if this would one that I would buy today. The enjoyment was even greater in the days of albums. But those days seem to have gone the way of the Dodo. Outside of J&R Music World in NYC, CDs, at least for jazz, has become an online product. Yesterday I was in my local Borders Book store, and perused over to the music area. The jazz section was dwindled down to 6 tiles, and one I would not consider jazz. Anyone else miss the days of large selections in retail stores? How is the situation where you live? I doubt it is any better.
  6. I remember the Norah Jones thread someone started and she quickly departed this forum because of abuse. That thread was locked, deleted or something like that.
  7. my sentiments exactly. every time i see it, it provokes a very unpleasant feeling. thanks in advance, hardbopjazz. In respect for a great musician and person lost and those here, I've changed the tread title.
  8. Gee, all I wanted to know if this is a legit release. If so, I would spend the $ and buy it. I don't want to break any board rules and don't want to make money for those ripping off the artists. If it needs to be deleted, then delete this thread. The same disc is for sale at Amazon.com.
  9. I do have a bootleg of this concert, but this appears to be longer. Anyone know if this is an official release of this '63 concert with Don Cherry? I would go out and buy if it is an official release. Rollins 1963
  10. Okay, so it has nothing to do with mono. Thanks.
  11. I was at a record sale and someone was selling the Beatles Butcher Block AKA "Yesterday and Today" album. It was an original. But what is 3rd state mono?
  12. Yes, he wrote three autobiographies. The third one destroyed by his manager. The subject matter he felt Amrstrongls fans would be shock to find out he was an avid pot somker.
  13. The side of Louis Armstrong many didn't know about was his obsession with the visual art form of collages. NPR, WNYC had a program about the resent book about Armstrong's art. Below is the link. As for Louis Armstrong, living close to the Louis Armstrong museum, I plan on making an appointment to view the art regarless how simple critics claim it to be. Show Besides Armstrong, how many other jazz artists were into other forms of artistic expression? I can think of Miles Davis who loved to paint along with Tony Bennett. Milt Hinton loved to take photos.
  14. Regardless, Woody remains one of the greats.
  15. I just realized the date has already come and gone. Damn, I missed this. Did anyone go see him, or know someone that did get to the concert?
  16. Donald Byrd in concert. I don't recall him playing live in many years. 18. Fill out the survey and you may have lunch with Blue Note records. Dear Friend: This is a special year for fans of Blue Note Records. The label turns 70, and we are celebrating its legacy with a series of anniversary events and releases throughout 2009. This year is also personally important for me, as I am marking my 25th year as president and CEO of Blue Note. Though there is much to celebrate, it's no mystery that jazz is facing a new set of challenges. Even apart from the dreary economy, the music industry is in a period of flux, and no one can predict what will come next. Many of the old ways we made, experienced and shared music are changing. Those of us who love this music must stay nimble and adapt in order to keep jazz vibrant in the years ahead. That's why I am asking for a few minutes of your time. The survey below will help me and my colleagues here at Blue Note better understand your interests and how we can serve you better. It should take less than 15 minutes to complete. As a thank you, I would like to take you out to lunch. We will be selecting one person from the New York area at random to have lunch and talk jazz with me in Manhattan. Ten other randomly selected winners will receive "The Treasures of Blue Note ," a set of 12 CDs and vinyl LPs from our catalog. It includes masterpieces by John Coltrane , Wayne Shorter , Herbie Hancock and Art Blakey . These are some of the records I remember buying when they first came out, and it's a pleasure to make them available to you again. You and I share a love for the greatest music on Earth. No matter what happens in the music industry, I want to ensure that Blue Note can keep delivering the finest in jazz for another 70 years. Thank you for your help with this survey. Keep swinging,
