  2. Not particularly good, to tell the truth. One of the very few Milestones that don't have at least one killer cut on it. Just my opinion, and as I remember it. I liked the credenza at the end of the album and "McGhee", to me these are the highlights of this session.

  10. I'm glad I was able to see Horace live a number of times. He always was very friendly with the audience. The tribute shows at the Iridium will bring back those memories.
  11. I didn't know you could get tickets in advance. I usually just call and make reservations. I will buy my ticket today. This is going to be a real swinging show.
  12. Horace Silver being one of my musical idols, I sent an email over a year ago to the admin on his web site and never got a reply or seen the board cleaned up. I say shut the site down. Horace should be remembered for his wonderful music he has given the world. I know he is still with us, but it doesn't seem like he'll recover.

  14. I don't understand what he was trying to do with these birds. Airport inspection reveals smuggled songbirds AP This undated photo provided by the Department of Justice shows detained suspect AP – This undated photo provided by the Department of Justice shows detained suspect Sony Dong, with songbirds … * Man Tries To Smuggle Birds...In His Pants Play Video Video:Man Tries To Smuggle Birds...In His Pants CBS 2 / KCAL 9 Los Angeles Wed May 6, 12:36 am ET SANTA ANA, Calif. – Prosecutors say a traveler tried smuggling songbirds into the United States by strapping more than a dozen birds to his legs and trying to walk out of Los Angeles International Airport. Sony Dong and another man were charged Tuesday with conspiracy in an eight-count federal indictment. Messages left with their public defenders weren't immediately returned. The U.S. attorney's office says Dong was held over for inspection at the airport when he returned from Vietnam earlier this month. Prosecutors say he had bird feathers and droppings on his socks, and birds' tail feathers peeking out from under his pants. Three red-whiskered bul-buls, four magpie robins and six shama thrush were among the birds that are now in quarantine. More birds were found in a Southern California home. Article
  15. Ah! Maybe this explains why the Dexter board was killed. I'm glad this place is still floating. "This is the Place" where it all happens.
  16. The Dexter Gordon forum was overrun by spammers and bots and now looks to be dead. How do you keep this board so immune to spammers and bots? I know when you sign-up now you need to answer a question, but is it that simple? We have had some spammers, but not like what is over on that board.

  20. In Mercer Consultings annual Quality of Living Survey, Europe once again dominates the list of 215 countries around the world. The top three cities are, by rank, Vienna, Zurich (last years winner), and Geneva. Commonwealth nations fare pretty well, too, winning 9 of the top 30 spots -- even though London comes in only at 38. The U.S. also fares poorly, barely making it into the top 30 with Honolulu and San Francisco in the bottom two places. The top city in Asia is Singapore, at no. 26. No cities from Africa or South America are in the top 30. The bottom? Baghdad once again comes in at 215. To find out which 30 global cities offer the best quality of life, read on. 21. That is true, too many performances and not enough time for each person or group.
  22. Being from NY this sucks.
  23. As of today, the Vanguard doesn't have a band for June 23- to the 28th.
  24. Look forward to seeing you guys. Valerie, Just to prevent any further confusion: David Weiss Michael Weiss I'll come up the stage and say hello. I seen you live before but didn't bother to introduce myself.
  25. Well if you could come back aother time besides June maybe something can be worked out at the Vanguard. I plan on seeing Barry Harris there in May. If I see Lorraine I will speak to her and see how she goes about booking bands. As far as Organ groups, Lou Donaldson plays there all the time with his organ group. I caught Dr. Lonie Smith there too.
