  1. Interesting fantasy...uh scenario. Interesting. If she goes all power hungry killjoy on those of us who've survived and starts issuing proclamations cancelling stuff like the Great Alaska Beer Train 2008 Oktoberfest-Brewhouse Tour (October 4), her days on our new planet are numbered. We need a name for the new planet.
  2. That's one of the greatest movies.
  3. And if it almost happens you can loop Max saying "missed it by that much."
  4. Playing God. A team of biologists and chemists is closing in on bringing non-living matter to life. It's not as Frankensteinian as it sounds. Instead, a lab led by Jack Szostak, a molecular biologist at Harvard Medical School, is building simple cell models that can almost be called life. Szostak's protocells are built from fatty molecules that can trap bits of nucleic acids that contain the source code for replication. Combined with a process that harnesses external energy from the sun or chemical reactions, they could form a self-replicating, evolving system that satisfies the conditions of life, but isn't anything like life on earth now, but might represent life as it began or could exist elsewhere in the universe. 5. CERN fires up new atom smasher to near Big Bang By ALEXANDER G. HIGGINS, Associated Press Writer Sun Sep 7, 2:52 PM ET GENEVA - It has been called an Alice in Wonderland investigation into the makeup of the universe — or dangerous tampering with nature that could spell doomsday. Whatever the case, the most powerful atom-smasher ever built comes online Wednesday, eagerly anticipated by scientists worldwide who have awaited this moment for two decades. The multibillion-dollar Large Hadron More on this
  6. I guess it wouldn't matter who wins.
  7. Tomorrow CERN will fire up the particle accelerator to recreate the "Big Bang". Some fear we will create a blackhole by doing this experiment. By Elizabeth Landau CNN (CNN) -- Deep underground on the border between France and Switzerland, the world's largest particle accelerator complex will explore the world on smaller scales than any human invention has explored before. The collider's ALICE experiment will look at how the universe formed by analyzing particle collisions. The Large Hadron Collider will look at how the universe formed by analyzing particle collisions. Some have expressed fears that the project could lead to the Earth's demise -- something scientists say will not happen. Still, skeptics have filed suit to try to stop the project. The full article.
