How many times cam Blue Note rehash the same material?
Hardbopjazz replied to Hardbopjazz's topic in Discography
I agree that it sells for the first time GG listener, and yes compilations do help companies, in this case Blue Note, to release something else that will not sell as well, but there are I believe 5 compilations out there now, with very much the same tracks on them. I read somewhere else that there is a session called "Acid Green" recorded at the start of the 1970's that might see the light of day at sometime. I believe it would sell too. I wonder how well "Live at Club Mozambique" did in sales? Not my favorite GG album, but a nice funk record no less. -
GRANT GREEN THE FINEST IN JAZZ It's the same tracks on at least 3 other issues. Why don't they just release "Shardes of Green" or "Visions"? 1 Miss Ann's Tempo 2 Cease the Bombing 3 Ease Back 4 Cantaloupe Woman 5 California Green 6 Down Here on the Ground

I know in the late 80 and 90's he crossed over to smooth jazz, but does he play straight ahead jazz again? He will be inconcert this summer around where I live and I was thinking of seeing him he is off the smooth path.

Wow, another one. RIP

AMG doesn't have any bio on him when you pull up his entry.

I was listening to a Teddy Edwards record this evening and I started to really dig the pianists playing on the record. I realized I don’t know much about him. I do have him on a Sonny Stitt record, "Kaleidoscope" and 2 Gene Ammons records "Boss Tenors" and "Red Top". Are there any other records with John Houston that is worth checking out?

I thought I had everything of Horace Silver and found out about this. He also did a number of appearances on the Joe Franklin show. It was an overnight talk show in NYC from the 1970s. I believe it was on from around 1 AM to 5 AM. The show was broadcasted on WWOR Channel 9. I know he was on for over 40 years. I will have to track these down. I did fine someone since I posted that has the Morgan/Silver. I will wait and hope he’ll make me at least an audio copy of that show. It is 33 minutes long. I’m not sure how much of that are them.

There was a TV program in the US on PBS called "SOUL". On Jan 26, 1972, this episode had Lee Morgan and Horace Silver. I would assume performing separately, but still, I would to see this. Slowly these old TV shows, Like Jazz 625 have made their way to DVD. I am only hoping this too is out there. I looked, but I didn't find anything.

How could you not know? Report: Ortiz not sure if he took steroids May 8, 2007 BOSTON (TICKER) -- It appears Boston Red Sox slugger David Ortiz is not sure if he has taken steroids. Ortiz told the Boston Herald that he could not say definitively if he had ever used performance-enhancing drugs in the past. The burly designated hitter also said that if he did, it happened when he was much younger. "I tell you, I don't know too much about steroids, but I started listening about steroids when they started to bring that (expletive) up," Ortiz told the paper. "I started realizing and getting to know a little bit about it. You've got to be careful. ADVERTISEMENT "I used to buy a protein shake in my country. I don't do that anymore because they don't have the approval for that here, so I know that, so I'm off buying things at the GNC back in the Dominican (Republic). But it can happen anytime, it can happen. I don't know. I don't know if I drank something in my youth, not knowing it." However, Ortiz, who hit a club-record 54 home runs last season, made light of the situation, joking that he should try steroids just to see what all the fuss is about. "I should use steroids just to see what's going on," Ortiz joked to the Herald. "Nah. I have a good family. I want to see my kids learn and develop. I think I'm having an OK career. So, I take a lot of Advils, but I think I'm going to stop taking them. They say it (expletive) your liver." Ortiz spent six non-descript seasons in Minnesota before signing with the Red Sox before the 2003 season. He has quickly become a Boston icon and one of the most popular players in baseball. In 2004, Ortiz anchored a Red Sox squad which won the franchise's first World Series in 86 years - highlighted by a shocking comeback against the rival New York Yankees in the American League Championship Series. The Red Sox became the first team in baseball history to come back from a three-games-to-none deficit to win a playoff series. The Tonight from Steve Allen, Jack Paar to Jay Leno.
Hardbopjazz replied to Hardbopjazz's topic in Miscellaneous Music
Don't know about the film footage, but I do have the music. -
From the very beginning of the Tonight show back in New York in 1954, there have been a number of jazz artists who have appeared on the program. Here are some that I know of. Art Blakey and the Jazz Messengers featuring Horace Silver and Hank Mobley. Oscar Perterson has been on the show. Buddy Rich has been on the show. Pre crossover George Benson, and most likely the crossover version too. Anyone else come to mine that you can think of?

I am trying to transfer some LPs to my PC and then burn them to CDRs. Where should I be plugging the input on my sound card? I’ve done this procedure a 100 times in the past but I can’t get it to work tonight. My sound card has three places to plug into. One I know is for the speakers, so that is out. The second is for a microphone, so that only leaves the third, which is where I though it should go, but it doesn’t yield and sound. I tried then to use the one for the microphone but the sound is all distorted. The only difference from the last time I did this is, I am on a new PC.

"can't we all just get along" You may want to send member andybleaden a message. He is the "Big" John Patton expert on this board.

Could it be that that member deleted the message sent to you? I think that is the only way it could happen.

Was that the show at Town Hall in NYC? I know all those guys did a show together in NYC in 2000. I have some fairly recent photos of Andrew from one of his last gigs he did in NYC. I'll to post some of them.

Wow, I am in a loss for words right now. A great loss to the music world. I will be seeding some hill on dime to remember him. Thank Andrew for all the great music through the years. RIP.

I guess Brother Thelonious would have to counter Satan beer.

I've tried this beer. It is called satan beer. I must say, it does taste like hell. My brother brought it over and we opened two bottles. We couldn't even drink half of the bottle, that's how bad it was. What was strange, the bottles had corks. http://www.satanbeer.com/
