  1. That would be me. Enjoy it.
  2. The gig was real nice. Kenny played his ass off.
  3. I went to see Kenny Barron at the Jazz Standard. Kenny loves the sauce. He drank 3 brandies before the show in a bar around the block. The brandy was in large a glass, the kind that looks like a fish bowl. Well, it didn't affect his playing. I stood next to him at the bar and just said hello and that I was going to his gig tonight. He smiled and rasied the glass, then down it went.
  4. Man landed on the moon. Who here remembers that day? I remember watching it on TV, and right away I was wondering why there weren't any stars. I was 6 at that time.
  5. Anyone know of a good web site to look up artists? I have 3 paintings by an early 20th Century artists that I am trying to learn more about. These painting were once owned by my gradparants. My grandparents were from Germany. They must have brought the paintings with them when they came to America. The artist name is H. Schmid. I've done searching and came up with a Hans Schmid. Born 1906 in Switzerland. Nothing else have I come across on him.
  6. Happy Birthday Henry(Hank). Thanks for all the music. Wow, 77! If only he lived to 77. Tragic loss to jazz.
  7. Mr. Shank was going to play the Iridium Jazz Club in July. The shows are no longer listed on the web site. Anyone know why the were canceled?
  8. I will be okay. The laid off 20% of the work force. The CEO's bonus wasn't as good as it was last year. They needed to get some money to up his bonus. It was just 103 million this year. Last year 140 million. More corporate greed. The way America works these days.
  9. The thing is, it isn't 19 years with the same company. I will begin the hunt.
  10. I have been working 19 years since finishing college. I have never been without a job, not even for a day. Today I was told my position wasn't needed anyore. I feel so sick. I have a family a homeWhat do I do?
  11. I stumbled across a CD in my collection by Chico Hamilton . He has Buddy Collette playing on it. I really started to dig his sound. Any other suggestions of recordings by him or with him?
  12. Hapy Birthday Mr. Green. Gone too early.
  13. I have to admit I’ve bought a few compilations CD only because there were 1 or 2 tracks I couldn’t find anywhere else. Kevin, you've sold me on the importance of compilations for jazz labels. It helps to pay the bills. I can't fault them for that. It must be my naivete, thinking everybody else buys jazz like myself and those here. Those number must be about 3 to 5 % of the music sales in the states, and maybe a bit higher in Europe. Hardly enough to run a record label.
  14. We had a very short discussion on this 3 years ago. value
  15. I agree that it sells for the first time GG listener, and yes compilations do help companies, in this case Blue Note, to release something else that will not sell as well, but there are I believe 5 compilations out there now, with very much the same tracks on them. I read somewhere else that there is a session called "Acid Green" recorded at the start of the 1970's that might see the light of day at sometime. I believe it would sell too. I wonder how well "Live at Club Mozambique" did in sales? Not my favorite GG album, but a nice funk record no less.
  16. GRANT GREEN THE FINEST IN JAZZ It's the same tracks on at least 3 other issues. Why don't they just release "Shardes of Green" or "Visions"? 1 Miss Ann's Tempo 2 Cease the Bombing 3 Ease Back 4 Cantaloupe Woman 5 California Green 6 Down Here on the Ground
  17. This is one big mother. My Webpage
  18. Got off of the junk? Did he? I know he didn't stop smoking, which gave his lung problems.
  19. I know in the late 80 and 90's he crossed over to smooth jazz, but does he play straight ahead jazz again? He will be inconcert this summer around where I live and I was thinking of seeing him he is off the smooth path.
  20. Wow, another one. RIP
  21. AMG doesn't have any bio on him when you pull up his entry.
  22. I was listening to a Teddy Edwards record this evening and I started to really dig the pianists playing on the record. I realized I don’t know much about him. I do have him on a Sonny Stitt record, "Kaleidoscope" and 2 Gene Ammons records "Boss Tenors" and "Red Top". Are there any other records with John Houston that is worth checking out?
  23. I thought I had everything of Horace Silver and found out about this. He also did a number of appearances on the Joe Franklin show. It was an overnight talk show in NYC from the 1970s. I believe it was on from around 1 AM to 5 AM. The show was broadcasted on WWOR Channel 9. I know he was on for over 40 years. I will have to track these down. I did fine someone since I posted that has the Morgan/Silver. I will wait and hope he’ll make me at least an audio copy of that show. It is 33 minutes long. I’m not sure how much of that are them.
  24. There was a TV program in the US on PBS called "SOUL". On Jan 26, 1972, this episode had Lee Morgan and Horace Silver. I would assume performing separately, but still, I would to see this. Slowly these old TV shows, Like Jazz 625 have made their way to DVD. I am only hoping this too is out there. I looked, but I didn't find anything.
  25. How could you not know? Report: Ortiz not sure if he took steroids May 8, 2007 BOSTON (TICKER) -- It appears Boston Red Sox slugger David Ortiz is not sure if he has taken steroids. Ortiz told the Boston Herald that he could not say definitively if he had ever used performance-enhancing drugs in the past. The burly designated hitter also said that if he did, it happened when he was much younger. "I tell you, I don't know too much about steroids, but I started listening about steroids when they started to bring that (expletive) up," Ortiz told the paper. "I started realizing and getting to know a little bit about it. You've got to be careful. ADVERTISEMENT "I used to buy a protein shake in my country. I don't do that anymore because they don't have the approval for that here, so I know that, so I'm off buying things at the GNC back in the Dominican (Republic). But it can happen anytime, it can happen. I don't know. I don't know if I drank something in my youth, not knowing it." However, Ortiz, who hit a club-record 54 home runs last season, made light of the situation, joking that he should try steroids just to see what all the fuss is about. "I should use steroids just to see what's going on," Ortiz joked to the Herald. "Nah. I have a good family. I want to see my kids learn and develop. I think I'm having an OK career. So, I take a lot of Advils, but I think I'm going to stop taking them. They say it (expletive) your liver." Ortiz spent six non-descript seasons in Minnesota before signing with the Red Sox before the 2003 season. He has quickly become a Boston icon and one of the most popular players in baseball. In 2004, Ortiz anchored a Red Sox squad which won the franchise's first World Series in 86 years - highlighted by a shocking comeback against the rival New York Yankees in the American League Championship Series. The Red Sox became the first team in baseball history to come back from a three-games-to-none deficit to win a playoff series.
