  1. The heck with that James Carter ... Sonny Stitt's "POW!" is extremely hard to find and a very nice date. I often wish Roulette would reissue this. Bennie Green blows some mean 'bone and the seldom-recorded Kirk Lightsley is pretty good too.
  2. Unfortunately, this TOCJ CD is missing 4 very good bonus tracks that are on the US version. I'll have to give this another listen. I never thought the sound was that bad... but even if it was, I dig those extra tracks, particularly "Swingin'". I can't get enough Tina Brooks. BTW, CJ, congrats on the great find. These old TOCJ CDs are going to start getting harder to find as the years go on.
  3. Alright, I'll take that "Happy Frame Of Mind" too! You talked me into it. Kevin
  4. On these titles, when you say "TOCJ w/obi", do you mean the old TOCJ CDs from about 10 years ago or the recent 24 bit remasters? "Headin' South" would be TOCJ-4062. If these are the old TOCJs, I'll take them. Kevin
  5. This isn't a cancellation, it's a renewal... No it isn't, cancel my account. Yes it is. is. is. is. tra la la... I can't hear you. You vacuous, toffee-nosed malodorous pervert. Cancel my account!! Renewal. renewwwwwal. Oh sorry, I've dialed the wrong number. This must be abuse.
  6. I used to think I'd get away with that, but then my little girls became teenagers and life becomes hell if you try to put the reins on too tight. They actually rebel more if you try to rein them in. Yes... do everything in your power to protect them. Monitor their use whenever possible. However, you are much better off if you educate them! They have to know that these sickos are out there or else the minute they are out from under your protective shield, they're easy prey. BTW, any parent who thinks they can stop their child 100% of the time from doing something they really want to do is deluding themselves. If your kid really, really wants to do something dumb, they will. The only thing you can do is influence them so that they never decide to do that dumb thing in the first place. Just last night my 14 year old daughter was watching the news with me when a story came on about a pedophile who lives near a baseball field. The story concluded by saying that the guy's window shades were supposed to be closed when there were kids on the field. My daughter asked me what good closing the shades would do. I told her because the guy was a sicko who wanted to do nasty things to little kids so they didn'ty want him watching them. She just nodded. Kids today know more than you want to believe.
  7. I was told by Michael Cuscuna that they had stopped adding copy protection to EU releases. When I told him that amazon.de is saying that these latest Conns do have CC, he was very surprised. I think that the amazon listing may be in error.
  8. This GG live stuff is coming out due to Bob Belden's insistence that it be heard. There are no original tapes to be found so this CD will be made using the mono mixed tapes with Malcolm Addey and Belden doing their magic on them. No idea about the music or the tunes. There are a couple of other CDs coming out on the July 18th date, but they're mostly Capitol dates... I think he said there were a couple of Nancy Wilson CDs in there.
  9. Does the grimace on the back cover mean that side two is bad or just that Hank was constipated?
  10. I have that TOCJ-5885 CD and I would be shocked to hear anything beating this CD for sound quality. It's one of the best-sounding Jazz CDs I own... it makes an excellent speaker demo CD. Smooth, full bass, nice mids and crisp highs. Plus the tunes are great.
  11. I'm with Lon on this. I dig the session but the piano just doesn't hit me right. It may be the recording because it sounds "off". Before the CD came out, I tried buying this on LP. I missed out on about 10 eBay auctions where it went for $30-50. Since it came out on CD, it's been going for a lot less, but I haven't succombed to it yet. The CD sounds good enough to me. Kevin
  12. I like the "all around good guy" part! Thanks for the B'day wishes. Every year is another milestone that you should cherish. The alternative to getting old is not what I want. I actually celebrated my birthday with the girls last night. I got the recent Moody Blues SACDs from Europe from my wife. I wonder how she knew to order those? As boring as it may sound, this day will be spent at work. Later, Kevin
  13. And how would one keep their teenage daughter away from myspace.com? Not possible. All you can do is constantly show them stories like this and point out how stupid it would be to do something similar... and even that won't stop him/her if he/she really wants to do it. As much as life makes it tough with work, housework, exercise, Jazz concerts, etc. every parent still has to pay attention to what their child is doing. Your vigilance can't stop until they move out. I am in constant fear of one of my daughters falling for one of these on-line gigolos. After all, as we prove here on organissimo, it's much easier to converse via the web than it is face to face. Have you ever heard these teens talk amongst themselves. It shouldn't be too hard to come across a lot better in pixels. No zits is a bonus.
  14. It's not limited to city living... my brother had an 18 foot Coleman canoe stolen from his garage in the boonies of New Hampshire. This was not an easy theft! The sucker weighed a ton. Theivery is why I now try to limit my car listening CDs to CD-Rs. Everything portable in my car is replaceable.
  15. Never heard of netsoundsmusic. How's their "VG" grade? Euclid's grading has been very good. I have always gotten what they say. I picked up some nice Bee Hive LPs from Euclid. BTW, when I ordered these two Milt Jackson Impulse! LPs, I also ordered a Lew Tabackin disc called "Tabackin" (Inner City) and a sealed copy of "Xanadu Live At Montreux Vol. 4". All for less than $40, including shipping. Kevin
  16. Always hunt at Euclid Records first! It's $9.99 there... well, it was until I bought it. Thanks for the heads up on these dates. I'm looking forward to hearing them myself. I love Teddy Edwards from this vintage.
  17. I was thinking the same thing last night while listening to the first track (Whisper Not) on Wynton Kelly's 'Piano' XRCD. Really? I don't have that XRCD but I do have the "Kelly Blue" XRCD and that is one sweet-sounding CD. In fact, I can't even think of a bad-sounding XRCD at all.
  18. I remember when I used to be excited by announcements of new Japanese reissues. But then I bought some of those Japanese Bethlehem mini LPs which had so much bass they sounded horrible. Then Blue Note Japan's last batch of "maximized" remasters came out... painfully loud. I'm beginning to think that the Japanese remastering engineers have bought into the recent trends in the rock world - LOUDER is BETTER. I am no longer going to be blindly dropping hundreds of dollars into an unheard remaster, regardless of where it's made. I wonder who's on that Joe Farnsworth date? Later, Kevin
  19. I don't know if it was this board or another, but we talked about this unit. If you look into that machine, the turntable is a piece of crap. It's a ceramic cartridge unit. I wouldn't use that turntable on my records! I really don't think this is an option for anyone who cares about their records. Kevin
  20. Unfortunatel Weizen, you & I may be one of a few who have had good luck with this model. Most people's CDR 765 decks have long since croaked and I don't think I could recommend it right now. Best bang for the buck right now is probably the HHB CDR830 BurnIt and the Tascam CD-RW750, both of which seem to go for around $550. Another one with a decent reputation is the Denon CDR-W1500, which is also around that price but may be easier to find in a local shop. I hear that the cheap Sony decks in the local big box stores like Circuit City and Best Buy are really bad, although I've not personally used one. FWIW, I only my Philips CDR-765 audio deck for needle drops to CD-RW. I then extract the audio to my PC hardrive, clean it up with this great, inexpensive program called Click Repair, and then burn it with my PC drive. Kevin
  21. http://www.toolhaus.org/ All the negatives in one spot, even if they get retracted.
  22. While I think the "ballbusters" that Jack refers are part of the problem, I agree with Jim that a seller should leave feedback once he receives payment. The buyer's end of the agreement is done. Because sellers like the one Jim has are holding feedback "hostage", Jim will likely NOT leave a deserved negative to this seller. Who does this benefit? Not future buyers, that's for sure! I also think seller's should be able to show eBay when a buyer leaves a negative for no reason and get it removed. The thing is, eBay wants nothing to do with policing their feedback. BTW, I just heard back from eBay. They will not remove any feedback from this lunatic cruisetunes. So, I do nothing wrong and yet I have some asshole telling people I'm under investigation for Internet fraud. I'm just glad he writes in all caps with a "foaming at the mouth" intensity. Most people will read his comments and say, "What a jerk". I'm still worried about the sellers who cancel any bids from someone with a negative. Of course, eBay doesn't worry about that either. All they really care about is that they get their money. FWIW, before I bid on this CD, I did research cruisetunes. He had a few negs, but they were years ago... probably right about when he stopped leaving feedback first. Once he started holding feedback hostage, his negatives stopped. The system is protecting him. The only reason he left me a nagtive is because he knew the listing was expiring. The doofus didn't know that once he leaves feedback, the window gets extended another 30 days. He should have just let it die and his "great" reputation would have remained intact. Kevin
  23. Unfortunately, there are many sellers who automatically cancel bids from any buyer with negative feedback. It's another aspect of eBay's broken feedback system that they refuse to acknowledge. FWIW, I filed a complaint with eBay over the negative with respect to the claim that there are "fraud charges" pending. If I read their feedback policy right, referring to an "investigation" is grounds for removal. I do hope I get lucky with this. I really don't understand why this seller left me a negative on the eve of the listing expiration. Did he think that he could leave me a negative and that I'd be unable to repsond? Once feedback is left by either party, the window for feedback on the other side gets extended by another 60 days. He thought he could leave this zinger and leave me no ability to zing him back? Duh. Know the policies buddy. Instead, I have to deal with this weirdo for another 60 days. He should have just let it die. Kevin
  24. Nope. eBay has already told me there's nothing they can do. They're absolutely useless. Worse than useless because they allow crappy sellers like this get away with smearing good buyers who've done nothing wrong. I am seriously thinking about my eBay purchases. I keep reading about people getting stiffed like this and I guess it was only a matter of time for me. I really don't need these headaches. BTW, I did leave a negative for this guy. At this point, it's really all eBay left for me to do. They actually think this loser will ask me for mutual retraction. Ha! This seller is nasty. He really did report to the deputy sheriff. I called the Waynesville deputy office and explained the situation. They asked if I wanted to file a harassment case against him for unwarranted police involvement. This guy successfully petitioned eBay for my personal info too so I am now expecting the harassment to continue. I'll probably start getting 2 AM calls now. eBay sucks.
  25. I just received my first negative from an eBay seller. I won an auction for a rare CD that he listed as 'near mint'. I get the thing in and I find a torn and creased booklet. He wouldn't even discuss a refund. I had to use Paypal (and our own Stereo Jack's appraisal) to get a refund. Now today, the last day he could, he leaves ME a negative. The seller is cruisetunes Avoid this seller like the plague. He even tried to file a police report. I can't begin to describe how bad this guy is. Any others out there we should know about?
