  3. Art Blakey: Drums Around the Corner
  4. Guitar Slim: Atco Sessions Eddie Jones only had one hit record in his short career, but he made a lot of great records. This is a collection of his later recordings and includes some small gems.
  5. King Oliver: "Farewell Blues" (Frog)
  6. And as part of a 2 CD Red Baron/Sony set.
  7. Coltrane Time - aka Cecil Taylor: Hard Driving Jazz/Stereo Drive Interesting to hear Kenny Dorham on this one. He didn't seem to want to leave his bop comfort zone, even though the other musicians - Cecil and Trane especially - were going to other places on this date.
  8. To use the one example you mention, the Vogue set doesn't come close to what Mosaic did on Django. The Vogue has only a very small portion of Django's 1930's sides, then jumps to the 40's and early 50's. If you want to know the best of Django's music, that Vogue set isn't the way to go. Very often, the cheap thing is the cheap thing.

  11. Roswell Rudd: Everywhere I've head this record for 50 years and I heard things listening to it today that I hadn't heard before. That's either a sign of classic music or some poor listening on my part in the past.
  12. Hope you have a Great Birthday, Emil!

  14. True - except Cleveland traded him to Kansas City, who later traded him to the Yankees. K.C. was regarded as a Yankee farm team in those days.
  15. Mal Waldron & Steve Lacy: Let's Call This (Hat Art) Masterful
  16. It seems to me that J.A.W. wanted to disassociate himself from the thread and perhaps didn't realize that by deleting his thread starting post that the entire thread would be deleted. In the past, moderators (or a moderator?) have deleted long running threads by accident. These things happen and we have to move on and not point fingers, just as we did when the listening and film threads were deleted.
  17. Thanks. Always good to hear Sonny's voice and music.
  18. Slings and Arrows - Season 2 Better than season 1 - and that's a high compliment.
  19. It's been established that there won't/can't be downloading at Mosaic, so why all of the discussion about it? If people want to discuss downloading, there are other threads in which to do it. It's of no relevance on this one.
