  1. Otis Spann: Good Morning Mr. Blues (Storyville/Analogue Productions) Someone at Analogue Productions should have known that Otis didn't deserve composer's credits for "Worried Life Blues" and "Going Down Slow".
  2. Frank Stokes - Creator of the Memphis Blues (Yazoo)
  3. I'm still ticked that Cashman let Andrew Miller go and then brought Chapman back for big bucks. Frazier and Sheffield had better pan out, or that trade will be pure stupidity.
  4. Great photo. It seems to capture a side or at least a moment of him that he didn't usually present to his public.
  5. Happy Birthday! Hope you're enjoying YOUR DAY!
  6. Judge seems to have learned to be a more controlled hitter this year. Last year, he seemed anxious. Pitchers could get him to swing at pitches out of the strike zone, and once they had two strikes on him, he was an almost automatic out. This year, he's more patient, has a better sense of the strike zone, and the results he's had reflect that. It's interesting how modest he is when he's interviewed. He usually talks about his teammates during interviews. The announcers were speaking about that today, and when he hit his tenth homer, one of them said it would be interesting for the post game interviewer to ask him how it feels to be Aaron Judge, and maybe he would talk about himself. After the game, the interviewer did ask him that question. He paused for a moment and replied, "It feels great to be a Yankee."
  7. Kenny Dorham: Round about Midnight at the Café Bohemia Volume 2
  8. Bud and Griff wail on "Idaho".
  9. That Galper story reminded me of hearing George Duvivier tell a story on the radio about getting tired of playing electric bass. He put his instrument in the back seat of his car, left the car unlocked and, when he returned, it was gone from his life. He probably was lucky the car wasn't gone too.
  10. Ticky Burden Big Ben The Chambers Brothers
  11. Nat Su: The J-Way (Fresh Sound New Talent)
  12. Otis Spann: Down to Earth - The Bluesway Recordings (MCA) Some very fine Spann, backed by Muddy Waters and band. The only slight downside is Lucille Spann's presence on a few tracks. Someone (I imagine that Otis couldn't, since he was her husband - perhaps Muddy or producer Bob Thiele could have made the decision) should have told her that she was no singer.
  13. Steve Lacy Plus: Five Facings
  14. Sale pitched well, but Tanaka pitched a complete game gem.
  15. Kenny Dorham: Matador
  16. Otis Rush: 1956 - 1958 - His Cobra Recordings (Flyright)
  17. Serge Chaloff: Serge & Boots/The Fable of Mabel
  18. Swing Into Bebop - All Star V-Disc Jazz Sessions (Dan)
  19. Lou Donaldson: Sunny Side Up
