  21. Nobody Knows My Name - Blues from South Carolina and Georgie (Heritage) Recordings done by Lawrence Gellert in the mid1920s to early 1930s. All of the musicians are unnamed and there's a wonderful guitarist on a number of the cuts which were recorded in Atlanta. As the liner notes state, he owes a debt to Lonnie Johnson, but where Lonnie Johnson tended toward perfection, this musician incorporates jazz chords and runs into his playing and sometimes seems as if he's barely holding it together. Somehow, he does and it's fun to listen to him do so. My friend Doug Price has been doing a blues radio show for the past 29 years. I used to sit in with him at the station and I remember we used to play tracks off this record and enjoy listening to the guitarist. As I recall, since he was anonymous, we used to refer to him as "that guitarist". I still think of him that way.
