  1. Sounds like a bogus story to me. I'd never read it before and If it were true, I'm sure that it would have made a lot of rounds before this.
  2. Shepp wrote three good tunes for that album. I'm not sure if he ever recorded them himself. I don't believe so. I think you are right on that. Maybe they were a gift to Marion? I've thought that might have been the case. If so, nice gift.
  3. Sonny Stitt: New York Jazz (Verve Japan)
  4. Thanks for passing along the good news.
  5. Shepp wrote three good tunes for that album. I'm not sure if he ever recorded them himself. I don't believe so.
  6. Duet: Archie Shepp-Dollar Brand (Denon) A wonderful pairing.
  7. Hope that your wife has a full recovery. When I read your post, I walked over and kissed my wife. We often don't appreciate the important people in our lives.
  8. Coleman Hawkins: The Coleman Hawkins Album Vol. 1 (Crown/Trio Japan)
  9. Always liked that one. Yes, I even like Cecil "Kid Haffey" Collier's vocals! Yeah - I like the vocals too. And the two saxes do a nice job backing him.
  10. Zoot Sims/Al Cohn: Either Way (Fred Miles Presents/Japan)
  11. Sorry to hear that. I usually like Lethem. I don't want to put you off something just because I didn't like it. For me, it was over-written and over-explained, with cardboard characters. You or others might read it differently.
  12. First snow of the year here - discounting a couple of flakes last week. Looks like it will melt away by tomorrow.
  13. Jonathan Lethem: Dissident Gardens My advice would be - Don't waste your time.
  14. Art Pepper: Among Friends (Interplay)
  15. The Total J.J.Johnson (RCA Japan) Even though I enjoyed parts of this, I couldn't escape the impression that I was listening to J.J. Johnson auditioning for future film and TV commissions.
  16. Billy Bang: Untitled Gift (Anima) The cover of my copy is pale yellow. Perhaps this image was altered so it would show up more clearly on a computer screen.
  17. Cardinal Spellman Robin Sun Ra
  18. Does it have the same great cover art? Different cover art but I can't find an image to post.
  19. Bird with Gene Roland's rehearsal band and with his own quintet (Spotlite)
  20. I have an Affinity LP from 1985 with the same tracks.
  21. Bunky & Jake: L.A.M.F (Mercury) A great obscure rock & roll album
  22. George S. Patton George C. Scott George S. Kaufman
  23. Jeff, Atlanta must have some of the best record stores left on earth. You're a lucky guy.
