The Collected Stories of Mavis Gallant This thing is as big as the Bible - 45 years worth of stories. I'd never read any of her work before I picked this up from the library. I've skipped around and read 8 or 9 stories and have liked what I've read so far.

You're not alone. I love Jimmy Knepper's playing but, for some reason, that one never came across for me either. It also strikes me that you could take that cover photo, remove all the typefaces, put the appropriate big white border around it, and almost/pretty much have a LT cover. I think you're almost/pretty much right.

Saw the jazz protest on Sullivan. To me, it just came across as a mess and served no real purpose. Saw the Ruffian race and still remember it vividly. Still think about it sometimes when I watch a horse race.
