  3. Now that you mention MG, any idea what happened to him? He's been absent from this forum for almost a year now; he disappeared when I was still a moderator, but I have no idea why he's no longer here. By the way, Weizen is also a moderator, but I don't know if he's still active.. I have emailed The Magnificent Goldberg from time to time. He is fine. He had some family matters which took up a lot of time, when he left the board. Now he says that he may return to the board at some point, but is a little bit reluctant because of the large time commitment. I suggested that he read and post on fewer threads. I wish that he would come back here. Well, he can always resign as a moderator, it'll reduce the commitment and lessen the stress considerably (I speak from experience ) That was a point I wanted to make. There's responsibility and, I would imagine, stress that comes with being a moderator. It's easier to criticize a moderator for making a decision than it is to try and understand why the decision was been.
  4. My goodness! Do you know Opal? Not personally - just from gospel reissues, reviews, and the book he did. I knew him in the '80s and published him a couple of times. Are you talking about his book of drawings, The Nations of Rock & Roll? He had a great show of early R&B I think on the Bay Area Pacifica station. Babe Piglet Paul Villepigue Auguste Villiers de l'Isle Adam Auguste Comte August Strindberg The Nations of Rock & Roll is the book. Gave my copy to a friend at some point. Back to business: January Jones Augie March June Lockhart

  6. Bird and Diz - just as it should be.
  7. Perhaps more caricature than comic, but ...:
  8. Photo should have been tinted Dodger blue.
  9. Congrats and good luck. Hope you draw a good crowd.

  11. Saw Gogi Grant on a 2004 PBS special & had no idea she was 80. She looked great for her age and sounded great for 80 also. But I had no idea that she was such fox back in the 50's.

  13. I'd like to see Sonny pushed/challenged some. That might not be what he wants, and he's his own boss.
  14. You know, he would be a very expensive 7th/8th inning guy, but with his "Stuff" he would probably do great, could close, but that's not going to happen there. Put Chamberlain in the rotation, and him in the bullpen. Chamberlain's recovering from Tommy John surgery, so he won't be available until next season. With Burnett's control problems, I would hate to see him in late relief. That wouldn't happen with Robertson and Mariano in the bullpen. Both have ERA's under 2, and Robertson's is close to 1.
  15. They were under/over my radar, but I'm glad their fans here and elsewhere enjoyed their music.
  16. Even though I'm at a point in my life where baseball is mainly entertainment rather than anything life and death, I was happy to see the Yanks clinch the AL East, especially after after everyone - especially everyone here - had given them up for dead during spring training. Anything that might happen after this will be gravy. I just hope that all of the Yankee fans here will keep denigrating the pitching staff. Your nay saying has worked pretty well so far this season. P.S. -- Please Joe, send A.J. home for the post season. (That's my only nay saying about the pitching staff. I believe that he's had only one decent start over the past 2+ months, so I doubt if my nay saying will have a positive effect.)
  17. I think one thing that's overlooked is that the moderators (is that pretty much Larry these days, with Jim traveling & playing and MG out of commission?) have to keep tabs on a lot of threads, and looking after one like this one which for the most part seemed to be rather redundant and self indulgent - at least imo - might end up being a lot more work than would seem worthwhile.
