  2. I like how even though it is listed as a $50 CD, in the seller notes he says it is vinyl after all. Good catch. Missed that.

  4. Never had an interest in her music, but I respect her as a person for setting aside the music business to care for her daughter. RIP, Ms. Snow.
  5. Here ya go: http://www.amazon.com/gp/offer-listing/B000AU1LNA/ref=sr_1_1_olp?ie=UTF8&qid=1303912054&sr=1-1&condition=used But it's not worth that price, even if you've got the bucks to pay for it. At least not imo.

  9. Miles Davis: At Plugged Nickel, Chicago Volume 1 (CBS Sony Japan) I've never been able to make an emotional connection with this band. But I keep listening and hoping that it will happen.

  11. I believe that Malaco Records bought the rights to the Savoy gospel recordings. Don't know if that's the current situation.
  12. "infamous"????? I've listened to the music, but can honestly say I've never read the notes. Had to look to see who wrote them - someone named Jimmy Stewart. I don't know if that's the saxophonist who recorded for Cadence Jazz or someone else. Whoever it might be, his liner notes didn't have any effect on the way I heard the music. You're laying stuff on Bill Dixon's music that he didn't lay on it, nor did anyone else here - excepting you and Moms.
  13. Slaven/Leadbitter gives the following for the Paul Gayten: R-1069 - Confused - 1 - Regal 3234 R-1074 - Fishtails - Regal 3234 New Orleans, 1949 Paul Gayten: V-1, p; Wallace Davenport: tp; Frank Campbell: as/bs; Lee Allen: ts; Jack Scott: g; George Pryor: b; Robert Green: d. Hope that helps. It's what I could find. An aside - The Earl King -Earl (Connelly) King - who recorded for the King label was a different artist from the Earl King (Earl Silas Johnson III) who was from New Orleans and recorded for Specialty, Ace, Imperial, etc. See here for more.
  14. I don't recall anyone here comparing Bill Dixon to Webern until Moms did. Also don't recall anyone comparing Dixon to Boulez or Stockhausen until you did. Bill Dixon did what he did - take it or leave it. And it's your right to do the latter if you choose. For me, comparing music from different genres is a waste of time. In the end, there's good music and music that's not. For me, Bill Dixon's falls into the former camp. Others may feel differently.

  16. Received and listened to the Eddie Johnson today. It's a wonderful record. Kudos to Eddie Johnson and the other musicians - John Young, Paul Serrano, Eddie de Haas, and George Hughes. Indian Summer is a fine memorial to the memory of Eddie Johnson. I hope that people here will take a chance on this recording. I can't imagine anyone - no matter what their tastes might be - not enjoying it. P.S. -- And a tip of the hat to Chuck - for recording this music almost 30 years ago when perhaps no one else would have - and for keeping the faith.

  21. Bud Powell in Paris (Discovery) I'm trying to decide whether I want to go for the Wounded Bird CD issue with extra tracks. Some very nice Bud here, though Kansas Fields' playing sounds out of place from time to time. I'll probably end up springing for the extra tracks.
