  1. Liam Clancy's version of "The Patriot Game" - Should ring a bell with Dylan fans. Always preferred Clancy's recording over Dylan's. RIP, Mr. Clancy.
  2. That's my impression of a fair number of ECMs that I've heard.
  3. George F. Babbitt Martin Arrowsmith Samuel Dodsworth
  4. Same thing happened to me a while back & someone pointed out this thread. Probably would be a good idea if this thread were pinned in the Forums Discussion.
  5. Was thinking about the Ellington LPs I have, & thought about deciding which three are my favorites. Ended up with: Blues in Orbit The Ellington Suites - for The Queen's Suite "...and his mother called him Bill" Hated to leave Such Sweet Thunder off, but those are my three. I'd be interested to see other people's choices. Please limit them to records that were actually initially issued as LPs or CDs - not compilations of early material from 78s.
  6. Got a bit of the fever, so the following arrived today: Mahler: Symphony No. 8 - Jascha Horenstein/LSO (BBC Legends) Johnny Hodges/Rex Stewart: Things Ain't What They Used To Be (Koch) The Jazz Messengers at The Cafe Bohemia Vol. 2 (RVG)
  7. Carmel Quinn Quinn Buckner Milt Buckner
  8. Ruby Dee Crystal Gayle Opal Louis Nations
  9. Didn't a 3rd member of the Charles band die around that time?
  10. Jimmy Knepper: Idol of the Flies (Bethlehem/Affinity)
  11. Kokomo Kokomo Arnold P.P. Arnold
  12. Obit: http://www.poughkeepsiejournal.com/apps/pb...?Category=obits - Scroll down. John Storm Roberts was an author, record company owner, and beyond that, a generous, warm hearted person. He taught me a lot of what little I know about African, Latin, and what's come to be known as World Music. He gave a lot to the world of music and to the world as a whole. I thank him for what he gave to me.
  13. Freddie Keppard: 1923 - 1926 (Retrieval) - The sound isn't the greatest - tho John R. T. Davies probably did it up as well as possible - but there are times when his trumpet shines through and you get a sense of where the music came from.
  14. The Strokes Petula Clark The Drifters
  15. James Brown Kid Thomas (harp player) Nathaniel Mayer
  16. Adding to my list of resolutions: 1. Lose 20 oounds 2. Exercise more 3. Keep the leaves raked off the lawn at all times 4. Clean all of the leaves and twigs out of the window wells 5. Get down on my hands and knees and pick out by hand all of the leaves that have collected under the bushes 4. Clean the garage often 5. Scrub out the grout between the bathroom tiles on a rigorous schedule 6. Wipe all of the cobwebs off of every beam in the basement on a rigorous schedule 7. Know the music I already have in my collection before I buy more. Thought I was 0 for 1. Make that 0 for 7.
  17. Those lyrics don't stand alone for me. They need the music (which is how they were meant to be presented) and a good singer for me to believe them. I don't see the point of having these (or any of the other lyrics posted) stand by themselves. They were meant to be a part of a whole, and should be presented that way. And they were meant to be sung, not read.
  18. Make a resolution to know the music you already have in your collection before you buy more. (Not that I'm able to do that myself, but it's a good resolution. )
  19. C.C. Rider B.O. Plenty A.B. Spellman
  20. Chuck? What have you done with Paul?
  21. There are more important things going on in my life and in the world than this. Doesn't matter to me.
  22. Dean Stockwell Heath Ledger Jennifer Garner
  23. Nice one, Jeff! And pretty rare - don't know if it's ever been reissued.
  24. Suzy Chapstick Roger Chapman Friendly Chap
  25. 33 of 38. Didn't know the fusion stuff - should have expected that.
