  6. I bought a copy of the Microscopic Septet's first album years ago, and ended up selling it - at the time, their music seemed to have more cleverness than substance to it. I see that their first two albums have been reissued and a relatively newly recorded CD has been released. I'm wondering if my early opinion of their music was a good one or not. Time and experiences have been known to change my mind about music and other things, though my memories lead me to believe that might not be the case here. Anyway - any thoughts, opinions, appreciations, put downs of the Microscopic Septet?
  7. Some green tea to settle my stomach. I went to a game at Yankee Stadium last night and ate some stuff I shouldn't have. I'm old enough to know better, but I guess I'll never learn.
  8. When I retired, they replaced me and a friend who retired the same day with one part time employee. Don't know if that was cost cutting or a comment on our work habits.
  9. I Like Be I Like Bop - Early American & European Bebop Violin (AB Fable) Some of the artists on this 2 disc compilation would seem to fall into the swing rather than bebop category, but screw categories. This 2 disc set includes a lot of artists that I'm unfamiliar with or am only fleetingly familiar with, so I'm looking forward to listening.
  10. I'll put in another pitch for the Complete H.R.S. Sessions to anyone who doesn't have it - great classic music.
  11. That one's an overlooked gem - at least imo.

  16. Think I got $1500 for my original to finance (in part) the Art Ensemble box. Guess they were paying for rarity. The Cecil cut is wonderful, but nothing else on there comes close to that. Glad you got the $, though. You, the Art Ensemble, and all us us who bought the box benefited.

  20. I wouldn't have a theme song. A good friend of mine has done a radio show for over 20 years. I helped him do his show for almost ten of those years. He's used the same two songs as intros and outros for his show over all of that time. They're both good tunes, but after hearing them over the years, I don't think I'll ever want to hear them again. I wouldn't want to play something over and over and burn it out. Not a comment on what my friend has done. I'm sure he feels that using the same tunes has given his show continuity, and it probably has.

  23. Goodbye to a true American original. Thanks, Bo.
