  9. Looks like he's a sleazier character than I had imagined. Thinking about deleting the topic, but perhaps it's better for things to be out there. I'll leave it up to the moderators.

  11. Congrats on your 25th! 10 Years for Joan and I on July 26th.
  12. I wasn't taking a shot at you, Jon. I only saw the first quarter of last night's game, so I can't comment on the officiating. I just think that losing teams and their fans could take a cue from the Spurs' actions after game five of the Western finals ended with a non call. They accepted it and moved on without comment.

  14. Admirable breadth of taste! Big difference in musical styles in the two recordings, but if you're looking at time, only 26 years separate the last of the Williams recordings and the Gillespie. Hard to believe that music changed so quickly.
  15. A couple: "Mysterious Blues" w. Mingus, Eldridge, Dolphy, Knepper, Tommy Flanagan, & Jo Jones from Newport Rebels (Candid) and "Circles" from M'Boom: Live at S.O.B.'s - New York (Blue Moon/MR)
  16. Right - a good team - and their fans - don't make excuses when they lose. (And I'm a Laker fan.)
  17. Texas music legend - even though he wasn't a recording artist. He produced hit records by Barbara Lynn, The Sir Douglas Quintet, Freddie Fender, Joe Barry, Roy Head, Rod Bernard, & B.J. Thomas; and produced non-hit records by Johnny Winter, Jimmy Donley, Clifton Chenier, & many others. Also believe that he did time - perhaps is still doing time - for sex with underage girls. Here's an interesting article: http://www.laventure.net/tourist/sdq_meaux.htm I'll bet that some of our Texas members have some good Huey Meaux stories. If they do, I hope they'll share them. edit - got my Barbaras mixed up - Lynn, not George

  20. They were actually the road band for Ronnie & The Daytonas! Didn't know that - certainly explains the surf sound on the clip you posted. I always thought they were a Dylanesque folk-rock band.

  22. Have it on a Black Lion LP - one of my favorite Ben records (but then I have a lot of favorite Ben records).
  23. Only disappointment for me with this one is that they left off "Pearl Harbor Parts 1&2" and "Why I Like Roosevelt Parts 1&2" - probably because they concern secular topics, and possibly because Willie Eason sings lead and plays Hawaiian steel guitar on them. Leaving them off annoyed me because I figured I could get rid of my old Imperial LP from the 70's. Still have it because of those tracks.
  24. The only thing I ever heard from them - probably the only thing most people ever heard from them - was "Let It All Hang Out". Didn't know they did early Beach Boys type stuff. At least the dancers were entertaining. Did a search and supposedly Huey Meaux produced their album. Supposedly, he was a real wheeler dealer, but he knew how to make commercial records that had some substance.
  25. Happy birthday To You!
