  1. George Russell: Jazz in the Space Age (Decca/Affinity)
  2. I'm thankful that Lester Koenig thought (and heard) differently.
  3. Art Ensemble: Early Combinations (Nessa) Back for another listen - and well worth it.
  4. Helen Humes: Songs I Like To Sing
  5. Art Pepper + Eleven - recorded on three dates. Recording engineering credited to Roy DuNann and Howard Holzer. I agree about the presence of drums on some of DuNann's recordings. I too always assumed it was the result of recording in a more limited space.
  6. This Is Billy Mitchell
  7. The same could be said about many (any?) of the greats, though I get where your friend was coming from. So many people say that Trane was in constant flux. For me (and I guess your friend), everything he played was an extension of "that", as you say.
  8. JB sure made a lot of great records over the years.
  9. If he leaves the Cavs, he'll be another Shaq - jumping from team to team in search of another title. Then again, he's already done that, so nothing new.
  10. Like TD, I read it years ago in Stereophile, but it was good to revisit it.
  11. Blow it 'Till You Like It - Memphis Harmonica 1951-1954
  12. Budd Johnson: Blues a la Mode
  13. Buffy Sainte-Marie: Little Wheel Spin and Spin
  14. Haven't heard the second yet, but the first has certainly passed the test of time.
  15. Ellington: Such Sweet thunder
  16. Tapscott- Simmons Quartet: Among Friends (Jazz Friends Productions)
  17. Chicago Blues - The Beginning (Testament)
