  1. So, you're against jazz players who "quote" other artists in their solos? I doubt that I'd have any interest if a jazz musician took a tape of someone else's solo and used it as background for his/her own playing. That kind of thing might work as a one time novelty, but it would get old pretty fast. My point is that sampling/stealing/whatever name you want to lay on it stifles creativity. What will the next generation do - sample samples? Hey - if people like it, so be it. I'll stick with musicians who create their own music.
  2. Just sent you an e-mail reply - Thanks!
  3. I guess (no - I know) I'm old fashioned: Screw "sampling", screw the copyright laws. Write (or play) your own damn music! If you can't, you shouldn't call yourself a musician.
  4. Newly listed LP's added & sold LPs deleted. Thanks again for looking.
  5. Happy birthday to a fellow Scorp!
  6. Yeah - it's always a good day when I get the time to spend some time with the turntable.
  7. Mosaic once sent me two separate orders of a box I'd ordered one copy of - the Otis Spann/Lightnin' Hopkins box. After I returned the duplicate, I mentioned it to a friend who's a blues collector. He said that he didn't have a copy, and that I could have given the duplicate to him without Mosaic being the wiser. I was glad that I didn't have to make the choice between being honest or helping out a friend.
  8. Thanks for all of the good words and wishes. I had a very relaxing day - a good thing when you hit the advanced age of 59. I'm still having a hard time believing that I've gotten this old. Joan and I went out to a birthday breakfast after church this morning. Then, while she was using the computer to do report cards (my wife is a first grade teacher), I treated myself to some good listening time - John Fahey, Jimmy Smith, Charlie Haden, and some assorted blues sides. I've ordered a couple of books for myself as after birthday presents - Lincoln Beauchamp's Art Ensemble book and Larry Kart's new book. I'm looking forward to reading those later in the week. Anyway, thanks again. I feel that in some way that I've shared my day with friends at Organissimo.

  13. I have one Art Hodes recording in my collection - South Side Memories on Sackville - which I like a lot. I know that there are quite a number of Hodes CDs in print. Can anyone recommend a favorite? Thanks in advance.

  17. Dan - Got my copy in the mail Friday, and had a chance to read the interview yesterday. Good interview, and a very nice (and creative) touch to add the blindfold tests - I don't think that any previous Cadence interview has done that. Guess I'll have to wait until the December issue arrives to find out if he and Meredith D'Ambrosio (one of my favorite singers) are still husband and wife.
  18. Strangely, the red background image was the back cover of the original ESP LP. The front cover was the 'in action' image. I have an ESP 1967 new releases brochure somewhere with a totally different cover. Stollman decided to change the cover when I brought him mine -_- I have the ESP LP, and in ESP fashion, they listed all of the information - (discographical - though no recording date, name of the recording engineer, "Cover photographs by Guy Kopelowicz", even their address and a bit of Esperanto) on the front cover. The back (red) cover is the one I prefer, and I think of it as the front cover, even though it's not.
  19. Hmmmmmmm.....Any thoughts? Should I treat myself? wolff - Sorry I didn't get back on this earlier. I have a few Analogue 45's, and this is one that I feel was definitely worth the $. It's in stereo, (not that important to me), but Steve Hoffman has captured the music here, and it sounds almost as fresh as when I first heard it in the mid sixties. That is important to me.
  20. I'm late, but I'm sure that your birthday was on time. Hope that it was a great one!
  21. Belated happy birthday wishes!
  22. Been off the Board for over a week, so I'm a week late - but belated Happy Birthday wishes.
  23. Belated happy birthday wishes to the man who photographed one of my favorite album covers - the side with the red background. I hope that you had a great one, and I wish you many more.
  24. Thelonious Monk: Monk's Music (Analogue Productions 45 rpm)
  25. Welcome, spinlps. If you also spin CD's, there's a Percy France CD on Endgame - The Percy France Trio: I Should Care - Engame 015 - with Dick Katz and bassist Jeff Fuller. It's rather poorly recorded, but Percy France and Dick Katz both play some very nice stuff. I play it now and again, so I guess it's recorded well enough for the music to come through. I only know of one other Endgame release - by Dave Schildkraut - and Jeff Fuller plays on that one also, so perhaps he has a connection with Endgame. If you're interested in the Percy France, I know that it's available through Cadence.
