  1. But it should be a criminal offense to put mayonnaise on hamburgers. It should be a criminal offense cooking hamburgers instead of true steaks. In the end it all comes down to the person doing the cooking. I've paid $50+ for a single steak and afterwards wished life in prison for the chef. On the other hand a true cook can work wonders with a $6.99 burger.
  2. If it makes you feel any better, I need no inspiration to curse.
  3. No, but I did stay in a Holiday Inn Express last night.
  4. All the more reason to get out of town & start dancing. And sincerest positive thoughts (sent in various forms, some of which might be considered "prayer") to George Cables. His Rhodes work on Rollins' "Poinciana" is for me the sweetest sounding example of that instrument on record, bar none (but you gotta hear the LP to hear it right). That was my first exposure to him, and it still tickles the ears in a most pleasurable manner. I am out of town, fool.
  5. Hans - I'm assuming George Cables wants people's prayers, based on Valerie's asking for them. If it is something that gives him comfort or hope, that's his choice. I got the impression from the first post that it was just Valerie asking for prayers, not Mr Cables. Anyway, I still think religion shouldn't be brought into threads like this. So when is an appropriate time? When the guy is dead, or never? If someone on this board started a thread asking for well wishes and a couple of members posted something like "I'll say a prayer for you" would you get all bent out of shape? What difference does it make how a person chooses or requests an expression of support and care? It isn't as if Valerie requested a specific prayer and said you must do it. Was it really necessary to point out that the prayers won't do shit? Fuck me, this place can be a real pisser at times. Too many uptight psuedo-intellects. Couldn't agree more, Chris. That said, can we please move the prayer debate to another thread? Let's keep this one for the best wishes (or whatever one wants to call it) in regards Mr. Cables' health. Yeah, I hear you. It really derailed this thread in a bad way.
  6. That is completely ridiculous. Well I know in certain sects of Christianity even thinking about adultery is considered a sin and is just as bad as actually committing adultery. So therefor watching porn would make sense. Yeah I know, and the Muslim faith warns of consequences that include blood shed, diseases, loss of shirt from back, and an all together miserable painful existence today and in the after life. That said, maybe this woman was a Muslim. Nah, I doubt it. Religous beliefs aside, I don't understand why a person would equate watching porn to cheating on your mate.
  7. That is completely ridiculous. Same deal with getting massages. Well....., maybe they could make a case on that one. Seriously, I have no porn stash, and although we've never discussed it, no doubt my lady would allow it.

I'm just saying that in my opinion religion should be kept out of this. There's a difference between asking for support and care, and asking for religious acts. For some people it might be the same, for others it certainly isn't. By the way, I didn't point out that "that the prayers won't do shit". Hans, I was not trying to single you out or imply you said something you did not. Look, those that voiced an opposition to the prayer reference in this thread are certainly entitled to their opinion. I guess I am more of a pick your battles type person, it seemed hardly worth the effort to make it a point. Obviously Valerie started this thread with the best intentions, why make an issue out of the title and not just stick to the idea of well wishes? If this was a thread about saying prayers and only prayers, there would be cause to speak out. I just did not see the need for it to be pointed out that a prayer will not help. And that is not a personal dig at Chris.

  10. A true jazz man deserving of our positive thoughts and wishes for a full recovery.
  11. That must have been some stash.
  12. That's the worst kind of fan.
  13. Al, is this a business trip or just for fun?
  14. Ha! That is one long ass flight and probably one that I will never make. Have fun!
  15. Big enough in Nebraska, by the looks of it. It also looks like that's his ONLY thing. MG Are you saying he drives the truck himself?
  16. I would answer, no. That is a rendition or "her" version of the same song.
  17. Which prompted me to pose a question that has lingered in my little mind ever since I started reading jazz bulletin boards: How do you define a "cover" as opposed to just another rendition of tune that someone else already recorded? Is Coleman Hawkins' "Body and Soul" a "cover"? Are there tons of "St. Louis Blues" covers? When the term was first applied to recordings, I believe it described recordings by white artists who performed a tune already waxed by a black artist whose records would not have been played on most radio stations. Presley's "Hound Dog" was a cover of Big Mama Thornton's original recording, for example. Maybe I'm wrong, but it seems to me that the term is now applied far too generally. My question was ignored and I admit that it was off topic (sorry Dan), so here it is again, in it's very own thread. Consider it re-posed. I have never heard it defined as you posted up on the black and white thing, but that is very interesting. I guess if we go by the definition Aggie posted, then yeah, there is a whole lot of covers being done. I've always thought a cover was when some one or a group performed a tune the exact way or as close as they can get it to the original. As an example, today when you hear one of these newer bands cover songs by Aerosmith or Led Zepplin they copy everything including those things unique to the original vocalist or musicians.
  18. I've never heard of this fuckin' guy before and he is a big enough draw to warrant a semi truck full of tour shit?
  19. It's not quite over yet.
  20. Fuckin', Mets...
  21. You must not be a fan of Howard Stern. I had both XM and Sirius for a while, but now only Sirius. I've been hooked on satellite for almost four years, and I'm never going back. I like Howard Stern (but haven't listened to him since the late 90's, since I've lived in markets that didn't carry him), but he's not enough to make me switch. I've been told that XM has better sound quality and more musical variety than Sirius (don't know if that's true or not), but since I've always been happy with XM, I've felt no urge to switch. Plus, my car has built-in XM, and I have a portable XM unit that I use at home, which I got for free. I'm very happy. I had XM standard on one of my vehicles, and still dumped it. I can tell you the music programming is the same. As for sound quality the only difference is whether or not the unit is hard wired. If you went with one of those pulg and play units you will lose some of that quality. An uncensored Howard Stern is well worth the switch. If the merger goes through you will see that I was right.
