  1. No. . . one Bechet session with Hodes appeared on two Mosaic sets.
  2. This was the view from our window!
  3. Music was great there, a little varied every night, but top notch artists. Spectacular views too.
  4. That's true Ron. My wife engineered the whole trip to Hawaii as a "Hawaii Five-O" trip as she turned "Five-O" in June and I today. . . . And to make matters even more law-enforcement connected, the hotel we stayed in was formerly "Gray's Boarding House" where Biggers conceived of the character Charlie Chan, and plotted the first novel, "House without a Key" (which is now the name of the night club/restaurant at the hotel. (Photos are of the night club/restaurant, but not photos which were taken by my wife or myself)
  5. Well, I have a number of the sessions which will be included in the box set. For the most part, I believe they are exemplary sessions. Yes, there are some that include long drum solos and a focus on drumming. As a former drummer I may be a little more tolerant of drum solos than others, but sometimes these ARE a bit too much. However Buddy's comping the groups is wonderful, and the musicians surrounding him are topnotch; these that I have are great swinging sessions. . . . I'll probably get the box set. Not immediately; I rarely get Mosaics immediately these days, unless it's a "vintage" (early jazz) set. But I'll get it!
  6. More Mosaic sets than years. . . . Yes, that's doable, and I suspect will be so in the future! Thanks for the kind words, all of you!
  7. I had the Mosaic lp set. . . it sounds wonderful. I sold it and bought the cds because I rarely listen to lps. I think the cds sound very good too. . . . If you are listening to a lot of vinyl, the lp set would be nice to have. . . these were very well transferred.
  8. I definitely can imagine myself thinking that one day! I also can picture myself saying "Where's that can of Ubik. . . ?"
  9. Don't really have an opinion on it S. I've not gotten the cd yet. I'm waiting for a possible inclusion in yourmusic.com to get this batch.
  10. My last four years of Texas state government service have been my mid-life crisis. I'm still IN IT, but I'm not letting it overwhelm me, I can't afford the stress and anxiety, I've been through enough, I've just shut that aspect of it down. Some of the absurdities are tragically FUNNY now. Just some, but enough to keep me entertained. . . . I'm just hoping that the next, the FINAL FOUR for me, are a little better. I take strength in knowing that I've been through an awful lot and proven I can. . . . Listening to Louis and enjoying myself a little here at work!

  18. Start on the cake whenever you wish! Thanks for all the good wishes mes copains! I'm going to try to get through the work day, looking forward to a great lunch at my favorite place (The Clay Pit), and a nice evening at home with Helen. . . . I'm actually not tripping to be 50. I watched Helen turn 50 in June, and it didn't seem to be too bad. . . Also. . . I really am enjoying this part of my life. . . I wouldn't want to have the problems I did at 25. Plus. . . this marks half my life spent in one place, Austin. After the many residences (cities, towns, states, even countries!) before that to be this "rooted" finally is a good thing! I appreciate all the friendship here and the great thoughts coming my way!
  19. Thanks so much! If only I were still having a "Hawaii Five-O" like I was last week on Oahu!
  20. Marty, that's one KILLER photo, thanks for posting it!
  21. I do too. . . only I really see that WE'RE the ones who are the weirdos Chris, those in power making the decisions march to the beat of a very different drummer. . . . It's the way of the world. I wish it weren't. I wish we had people with real compassion and wisdom at the helm. Will we ever? Have we ever?
  22. Chris, love that photo, thanks so much!
