Yeah, it's a part of the LP reissue series, and they're just doing lp facimiles. . . . My guess is that the edits could have probably been restored if this was in a different series and had a different producer (and it would cost 19 bucks!)

I haven't heard ANY of those Blue Notes. I'd like to hear the OTHER Tyrone Washington.

Mine's a P-120.

I bought a Yamaha digital piano a year and a bit ago and I love it. I played around on a lot of available machines, and settled on this one, cost me about a grand. It FEELS like a piano. It sounds really good, with on top of a nice grand piano sound, a nice Rhodes and Wurlitzer sound as well. Everyone who visits digs it. I did play cheaper digital pianos, but didn't feel they would hold up to a lot of use (not that I over use one!) and they didn't feel as real. . . .

Probably the Columbia Jazz set. . . in due time.

I'm still reading Armesto's "Civilizations" (with bits and pieces of other books in between). . . . I'm sort of stretching it out, not wanting it to end. Earlier I was studying this label as the second cup was dripping slowly. . . . This is the beverage I most enjoy in this life.

It's the marketing sure, that helped. I came in to jazz itself through Filles De Kilamanjaro and Miles Davis At Fillmore, two releases ripe for the plucking by a sixteen year old freshly back in the states jonesing after hearing African music and British blues and blues rock bands on the radio in Swaziland. After digesting electric Miles reading what Miles said and browsing his records from the fifties and sixties led me to both check out Duke and Pops and Bird (from what Miles said about them) to Coltrane and Cannon and Wynton Kelly and so many others (from their sideman status with Miles). Yeah, and I'm one of the dickheads who keeps buying Miles over and over, at first because I kept wearing out tapes and lps, and then because my stereos got better and I wanted to maximize the sound of some of my most favorite recordings (and use them as a gauge to my stereo reproduction because I knew them so well). And also because the packaging often included extra material not released before that I wanted to hear badly. I think it's definitely the hype and the promotion that accounts for a lot of initial sales. It's also the scope and the depth of the music and his artistry that accounts for a lot of other sales.

Well, I've listened to both these new releases a few times. Have to say. . . and it will upset a few probably. . .I become less and less an Oliver Nelson fan as time goes by. . . I just don't want to relisten to a lot of the material he has arranged and conducted. But I've always liked Domination because of Cannon and the energy and verve he brings, charged by all that sound around him. And Experience in E. . . why did they have to mess with the tapes and remove parts? I haven't heard the original with the synth parts, but I sure would have liked to be able to! It's still a great piece that I enjoy a lot . . . . Money in the Pocket is a real gem. Herbie Lewis! Working band doing what they do best! This one I'm going to play and play.

I don't think that Cab minded a double-entendred alternate idea for the title that an American audience might come up with. . . .

tatifan, you DO get a beautiul front cover image with the download to iTunes. . . though you don't get any more notes etc. than you see before downloading. I would rather pay less, but I have bought some of these because basically they were clones of Japanese cds that cost a lot more, and I felt they were a good deal in that sense. And I bought some Betty Carters because I hadn't been able to find cheaper used discs. . . .

Well, I really like Cannon from the Savoy sides through the Fantasy sides, and I just revel in the excitement and joy that comes from listening to his playing. Got these two new ones in the mail tonight and know i'm going to really enjoy them when I have time to spin them a few times (likely this weekend). I've also been enjoying a couple of live shows from 1972 lately that are great. Those solos! I've never been unhappy with Nat's work. I like it a bit better earlier than later, though some of those long low notes on the late sessions are quite fun to hear!

Dan, I haven't run across one of the downloads yet that are from vinyl; all I've heard are from Japanese Verve POCJ cds. . . and sound fantastic. And from out of print US cds.

When it WAS on the Sony site, it was selling for like 47 dollars. . . on sale . . . I don't think the cdu price is really "incorrect."

Dang! Still haven't gotten mine! But good things are worth waiting for!
