  1. Well, I'll just disagree then. I don't feel PKD's prose is mediocre, or like RDK that he was a pretty lousy writer. I feel that his style is very spare and modern and as Eric has mentioned tied to the characteristics of thoughts. Maybe it IS a personal thing, because I find that it really feels natural to the way that I think.
  2. It is a shame that the only way to get the Pasadena (not Philadelphia) concert so far is as a major part of the second disc here. . . . But it's a fantastic show well worth hearing.
  3. I don't find Dick's prose "leaden" at all or that he didn't have an ear for it. I guess it's just a matter of personal taste. I find his style to be very direct and compelling.
  4. For consideration: I find the sound of the Roulette Stitt Mosaic can be pretty bright and brittle on some systems.
  5. Peter, thanks for letting us know! He's missed. . . glad he's okay.
  6. I'd have to say this is. . . Bonfa music. It is of its time, but also timeless. . . it's Brazilian but also transcends such a simple category. It's the work of a vrituoso who impresses mightily with technique and is also able to express feeling and color and narrate. . . . It's might fine stuff indeed.
  7. I agree with you, funning aside about whatever it was that Teo was producing, music or anatomy. . . .
  8. Okay, maybe they don't like you! They've only been absent from the new release rack for 17 months at the most. . . .
  9. I have all four volumes of the Lee Wiley released, and hope there will be more. . . I also have the Bill Harris items; a very nice label, hope they can be revived/will reappear with new releases. Volume 4 of the Wiley was released February 2004, so it has only been a year and a quarter that they have been AWOL, at the most.
  10. No shit. Everyone knows he was nothin' til Teo took over producing his ass. -_-
  11. Yeah. . . sorry in some ways to be spreading my illness. . . but it's got a lot of happy symptoms!
  12. I'm ahead of you! Have had it a month or more. . .and I agree; phenomenal!
  13. Hope all is well. Sad sad news.
  14. Many more happy ones!
  15. Forgot, I also ordered this with the Motta dvd, to feed my growing McRae addiction. . . .
  16. LAL, sorry that happened. I wish I had ten bucks for every time it happened to ME. It's got one very cool cover though! I have been on a sort of Betty Carter binge lately, snapping up some OOP titles from "The Verve Vault." Well, the Ed Motta dvd came back in stock so I ordered that. . .The cds he's put out the last few years are so great I imagine this dvd from 2004 is as well.
  17. Agreed. . . though I'm equally fond of "Big Band Specials"--those are my two favorites.
  18. Oddly enough, I find that the domestic OJC of "Wide Open Spaces" remastered by Kirk Felton sounds BETTER than the K2 remaster that was released in Japan earlier. The remix balance is better, and the tonal sounds are very natural and balanced.
  19. I'm not being driven away until the final part of Mark's plan comes to fruition: the opening of the new jazz board photonissimo.org
  20. I know what you mean! I have all those except the AEC one (not a fan) and you're in for some really good listening. I love that Roulette Betty Carter, it's full of almost three complete albums that are not in print here in the states, and "Out There with Betty Carter" was part of the Impulse "I Can't Help it" two lps on one cd that is now out of print. The Rostaing/Meunier was surprisingly good to me as well!
  21. I didn't quite get all three of those cats when I was first getting into jazz. . . . But over time I've learned to really enjoy the work of all three. Not necessarily ALL the work of ALL three, but a lot of it. It's quite fine if you don't dig them, but I don't think they're at all overrated.
  22. Yes, it's a carefully studied and structured response; not too many, but enough.
  23. I would be very very very very very surprised if you even entertain a second thought after hearing the first few discs. . . .
