  1. Only once have I heard a later pressing sound better than an earlier one. It was a second pressing of Blue Train which I acquired from a friend who was eager to ditch it when he acquired a first which had a green tint to the cover and a few other differences such as no registration mark. First pressings usually sound significantly better, so it is important to know how to identify them if you think sound matters as I do.
  2. I called them and they don't ship . anyone in Chicago can pick one up for me? they have one I am looking for.
  3. Anyone know what number did 50's Riverside releases go from white label with blue print to the blue label with silver logo label? Trying to figure if a record I have is a first or second. thanks.
  4. Sting on Leno tonite. Check out the drummer.
  5. Can anyone tell me what this record sells for? thanks
  6. I caught Sting on the billboard award show last night. The drummer was great. Who is he???
  7. Can anyone confirm that this lp was originally two 10"'s and tell me what numbers they were? also, is there a lexington version of this lp (1518).? I only have seen west 63rd versions on EBAY. thanks.
  8. Is the original stereo pressing on RCA good? decision time!
  9. Can anyone comment on this pressing? Need to get this title!
  10. I believe there are certain rock records that can only be appreciated fully on vinyl, their original medium. A couple I have been digging are BiG Hits (High Tide And Green Grass) - Stones in mono of course and John Mayall and the Blue Breakers with Eric Clapton in mono. Does it get any better?
  11. how is Identity Crisis ?
  12. It is shocking that the new improved masterings of jazz titles are worse that the "orginal" cds. the remaster for Miles In the Sky" is awful compared to the orginal cd. They even reversed the channels. some of McMaster's orginal masterings like Inner Urge sound really great. As for vinyl remasterings of vintage jazz lps... forgetaboutit.
  13. I don't even know if my MMF-7 runs at 45 rpm!
  14. If anyone has an collectable orginal hard bop or west coast lp they can part with in exchange for a sealed Complete Jack Johnson sessions box set PM me. sorry I can't be specific on wants, but there are hundreds of lps I am looking for. thanks. (I will leave this up for 5 days.)
  15. the 3 cds I bought were: MODERNISTIC THIS IS SHELBY LYNN REMEMBER SHAKTI LIVE IN BOMBAY the Shelby Lynn sounded like you made a cassette dub from a cheap cassette player. Now I don't know if this is a problem with the original recording, but I know the other recordings were produced by artists who know about sound or in the Moderistic case, the studio has produced some great recordings. the sound on the latter cds was unfocused, hazy, transients sounded a little distorted and smeared, soundstage sounded constricted ect. I heard of compaints year ago about their product but I figured by now they had improved along with most other cd manufacturings. If they don't take them back, I will attempt to get the other versions so I can see if I am imagining things or what. I just expected to hear some great sounds on at least one of the cds!
  16. I bought 3 cds at the special sale for non members. They sound lousy. I don't think there product is as good as the regular issues. Anyone else notice the inferior sound quality of BMG manufactured disks?
  17. that is the one.
  18. cool. I need a push in order to spend 18 bucks on a cd. the only thing I heard of him was his Out of the Blue lp which I loved and sure enough is a rare and expensive vinyl piece. off to Tower!
  19. Can anyone recommend this I believe Fantasy release with two titles on it ?with grant green. Can't remember the details. Moonriver is the first cut. thanks
  20. while I was hanging in Tower, deciding whether I should spend 18.99 on a frigging cd, I was entertained by an engaging new release by Dave Brubeck which is audiophile quality. Part of the show Dave sounds like Freddie Redd, which of course got my attention. The sound was super, even coming over the store's lousy sound system. Of course when they tried to get outside, they sounded a little silly, but for the most part it was a very enjoyable listen. I am becoming more convinced live jazz recordings are where it is at! Very recommended if you like a relaxing listen that puts you there! (I wish I was!)
  21. " searching the murky corridors of your mind..." John McLaughlin
  22. the least we could do is find a victims rights organization for Allen to join.
  23. Since the EMPYREAN ISLES is gone, , others seeking this title on vinyl should consider the blue label version with the black logo. It is a RVG stamper and it sounds great! lot less money of course too.
  24. I picked this up yesterday. It has all the vibe of an exhumation. If you want a different take on the Beatles get Anthology III. It is a good example of technocrats running amok. Phil Spector's version reigns supreme.
  25. Exactly. Just as some people think an offer to sell a CD for $15.00 or entertain trade offers somehow means that the seller would accept a ten dollar bill as trade. I mean come on, this has really gone on far too long, and I've stayed out of it up to here, but I don't see how anyone can compare a curt PM to Jazzhound's public howling. That was an embarrassment. the dudes post invited offers, get it pal? ( I am just being curt.) and direct.
