  1. Series mvp? If Texas wins, I vote Napoli. If St Louis wins? Maybe tonight's hero? I was surprised Napoli stayed in the game last night. He looked really hurt.
  2. I went to bed in the 8th inning and missed it! I was sure Texas was going to win. It'd be a surprise if it's a blowout by either team tonight. That would be a disappointment. Hoping for some dramatics tonight!
  3. Well put, Joe and JSngry! Other than the blowout game 3, the games could have gone either way. It's not remembered as a great World Series (well, it was to me!), but when the White Sox beat the Astros the teams were very close. Little things meant a lot. And it sounds like Big Al doesn't want to jinx things for his team by being too optimistic!
  4. Ordered Chicago South Side 1923-30. Thank you for the recommendation.
  5. Cardinals left too many on base last night, but you gotta hand it to the Rangers' pitching staff and clutch hitting by Napoli, even if the wrong Cardinal pitcher was in the game. Advantage now with Texas, which hasn't lost two games in a row in quite a while.
  6. The warmer weather in Texas (in the 80s) seems to be more conducive to hitting. The World Series should end in September. Truth be told, I never even liked Reggie Jackson being named Mr October. More like Mr Season Should Have Been Over By Now. But if they shortened the regular season, they'd feel fine charging you twenty dollars for a pop and thirty for a hot dog. And raiding your 401K!
  7. That's a shame. The umpire's missed called at first base on Napoli, clearly out, is giving the Cardinals all these opportunities for runs in the fourth inning!
  8. Home run for Allen Craig! This guy's at bats count!
  9. We think (hope) Danny Espinosa in DC will belong in this fine list. He had a killer first half, best slugger among all major league second basemen (sic), but tailed off in July and August. And his best position is shortstop! We can't seem to make up our mind to move him there and do something else with Ian Desmond, so Desmond must be impressing somebody in the organization! Kinsler has been this kind of player for a few years now. It's good if the broader public finds out with this series.
  10. If the Cardinals had won last night, you would have to name Adam Craig the frontrunner for MVP. Amazing! I guess it still could happen if he does well in Texas. Now I guess if Hamilton does well, he could be under consideration.
  11. I think you hit the nail on the head. Riggleman for DC, mentored by LaRussa, used to do quite a lot of that with his "patented" double-switches. He took a beating for that in the DC blog world. Rangers' infield defense was a pleasure to watch. And I am still impressed by Andrus for not stepping on Carpenter at first base in Game One. The more I see this guy the more I like him. Maybe next season it won't be NY-Boston on tv 90% of the time like it seemed this year.
  12. Hope nobody gets hurt! That play by Carpenter at first base could have been disastrous! Professional job by Andrus to miss him. Cardinals in 5 (because their 'pen won't be able to last 7!)
  13. 2006 Onion article: http://www.onionsportsnetwork.com/articles/cardinals-apologize-for-winning-world-series,2079/
  14. Raga and other stuff from Robbie Basho, John Fahey.
  15. Killer 3rd inning! That might be it for Detroit. (edit: I wrote that when it was 7-2. It's now 9-2!)
  16. Oh, come on! I believe Arizona kept its dome closed too for both games in Phoenix & it wasn't that warm outside. Anyway, go Brewers!! Well, I was thinking about the WHOLE SEASON of Brewers using their roof that way and ending up with (surprise, surprise) an unbelievably good home record. What should the competing teams do to even it out? All build enclosed stadiums that they rig for home field advantage? I stick with my criticism of the Milwaukee team. It's a rare year I will not root for the NL team in the World Series, but not this year if it's Milwaukee. As much as I like the city and its friendly people! Philadelphia and St Louis had much better road records, and I like that.
  17. Mighty time in Dallas! Walk off home run in the eleventh. Tough on the Tigers.
  18. Sorry for Ryan Howard getting hurt on the last out! Great win for St Louis! What a game for Carpenter! 1-0.
  19. This looks bad for St Louis, leaving the bases loaded with one out and not getting anyone in.
  20. Definitely DID NOT WANT Morgan to knock in the winning run. Could not stand him with the Nationals. Wild pitch did Putz in by putting the winning run on second base. BUT, congratulations to Brewers fans! Next game, St. Louis and Philadelphia.
  21. Craig Counsell at bat for Milwaukee? Good player, but this guy must be the Forrest Gump of MLB! Shows up at an incredible number of the important moments.
  22. 9th inning! It's either tie, go ahead, or go home! (I really dislike the way Milwaukee uses its roof. They close it up even when unnecessary in order to raise the sound level and create a home field advantage. Not the way Houston uses its roof because of the heat and humidity.)
  23. Nail biter in NY in the 7th and 8th innings! Now bottom of the 9th! Last out swing and miss by ARod! Tigers win!!! Good season, Yankee fans. Lots of good baseball and memorable milestones for Jeter and Rivera. Hoping for Cardinals to eliminate Phil tomorrow.
  24. Knock him out, John!
