paul secor Posted August 23, 2011 Report Posted August 23, 2011 The cd is a reissue of an lp on Fountain. I'm sure the transfers are the same. Four of the extra tracks are from Brunswick/Vocalion. Not sure which other tracks are missing on your lp. Thanks, Chuck. Just checked a discography and I'm missing eight early solo tracks recorded for labels other than Gennett. Probably worth it to pick up the Retrieval CD for those. Quote

JohnS Posted August 23, 2011 Report Posted August 23, 2011 (edited) Just finished the Complete Freddie Redd on Blue Note. Dexter Gordon; Clubhouse. Blue Note (Rainbow) - I didn't know that Ben Tucker replaced Cranshaw on one track. Nothing to indicate that on this issue. Next on Grant Green; Solid. Leeway Posted August 25, 2011 Report Posted August 25, 2011 Q. Where did the name Odwalla come from? A. In a musical piece titled Illistrum by the jazz group Art Ensemble of Chicago, Odwalla is a mythical leader who guides the "people of the sun" out of the "gray haze." Quote

BillF Posted August 25, 2011 Report Posted August 25, 2011 Hank Mobley 'The Turnaround!' (BN/King) Lovely! At one time the CD held my record for overpayment - £21 at HMV! "Those were the days" isn't always the watchword where record buying is concerned. Quote
colinmce Posted August 25, 2011 Report Posted August 25, 2011 Vienna Art Orchestra - From No Time to Ragtime (Hat Hut, 1983) The whole album is a marvel, but the admission is most surely paid by the Braxton piece. Quote

"Those were the days" isn't always the watchword where record buying is concerned. £21 for a CD !! No wonder the whole kaboosh fell apart. Come to think of it, I can remember the time when most CDs here were £16-17 or thereabouts and that was for non-imports too. If that is the first Blue Note 'Turnaround' CD reissue I think I paid about $12 Cdn plus tax for it at Sam The Record Man ie. about $15. £7-8 at the time, a veritable bargain !
