Clunky Posted August 29, 2011 Report Posted August 29, 2011 Joe Harriott - Jazz for Moderns - (Gearbox) How is it? Worth the £? It's very brief but wonderfully recorded in glorious mono. Well worth it, get it before it goes. I've got all of the Gearbox vinyls and this was the first. The latest by Ronnie Scott is also excellent. Quote
clifford_thornton Posted August 29, 2011 Report Posted August 29, 2011 Yeah, ditto Clunky's opinion. Though I'm not 100% convinced of the pressing quality of the Gearbox releases. This one had all kinds of whitish crud in the vinyl, though it plays fine. Quote

Same thing applies I guess with the Japanese Sawano Tempos. These have been fabulous - not to be missed whilst they are 'around'. Edited August 30, 2011 by sidewinder Quote

clifford_thornton Posted August 30, 2011 Report Posted August 30, 2011 Oof. That is probably the sickest "what vinyl are you spinning" post around. Quote

clifford_thornton Posted August 31, 2011 Report Posted August 31, 2011 Jeanne Lee is incredible on probably everything I've heard her on, but YMMV. Now spinning: Jack Wilson - Easterly Winds - (BN Liberty stereo) Quote
clifford_thornton Posted August 31, 2011 Report Posted August 31, 2011 Rick Reed - The Way Things Go - (Elevator Bath) Incredible recent electronic/drone record if you are into that sort of thing. Quote

Leeway Posted August 31, 2011 Report Posted August 31, 2011 This is on a West Wind LP. Some folks have told me that this is pretty close to a grey market or even bootleg label. I have a Braxton Quartet LP on West Wind and it sound quite good, better than the similar LEO label release. What's the story on West Wind? Quote
Leeway Posted August 31, 2011 Report Posted August 31, 2011 Not my cup of tea it turns out. Too processed. Guess I am not a fan of the ECM sound, Quote
