paul secor Posted November 18, 2012 Report Posted November 18, 2012 New York Eye and Ear Control (ESP/Base). A joyful noise, or a glorious mess, or something like that. I'll have to give that one another shot. Always seemed like "something like that" to me. Quote
jeffcrom Posted November 18, 2012 Report Posted November 18, 2012 New York Eye and Ear Control (ESP/Base). A joyful noise, or a glorious mess, or something like that. I'll have to give that one another shot. Always seemed like "something like that" to me. Don't get me wrong - it's not a masterpiece; it would have benefited from some organization. But as someone who likes noisy music sometimes, I enjoy spinning it occasionally. Now playing: Steve Lacy - Raps (Adelphi). The bass player on this 1977 album, Ron Miller, is not well known, but he's excellent. I had never made the connection, but I noticed last night that he was the bass player on the CeDell Davis album I was listening to. Quote
jeffcrom Posted November 18, 2012 Report Posted November 18, 2012 Mundell Lowe - Porgy & Bess (RCA Camden). With Ben Webster and Art Farmer - not bad! Quote
jeffcrom Posted November 18, 2012 Report Posted November 18, 2012 Michael J. Smith - Moments (CCRI). Not my favorite album by my old boss, but I was in the mood for something like this tonight. Quote
jeffcrom Posted November 18, 2012 Report Posted November 18, 2012 Didn't want to end the evening with the last album so I pulled out Michael's "fusion" album: Michael J. Smith/Jonas Hellborg/Michael Shrieve - All Our Steps (Day Eight Music). I like this one a lot better. Quote

jeffcrom Posted November 19, 2012 Report Posted November 19, 2012 (edited) James Blood Ulmer - Tales of Captain Black (Artists House). Enjoying the full bookleted experience for the first time ever - thanks, JSngry. To state my major problem with this album positively rather than negatively: I sure would have enjoyed hearing Ronald Shannon Jackson in the drum chair.. Edited November 19, 2012 by jeffcrom Quote
jazzbo Posted November 19, 2012 Report Posted November 19, 2012 One of my favorites. Full spectrum MONO. Quote
