Carla Bley Band: European Tour 1977 (Watt)

That was quite a group, including Hugh Hopper, Elton Dean, Andrew Cyrille, and Roswell Rudd. I think I've read that the group was not very happy with Ms. Bley.

Listening to the record, it sounds as if she exerted a lot of control over the playing. If it's true the musicians weren't happy, perhaps that's why.

Yes, I believe that was the cause of the friction.

There's an interview with Carla in this month's 'Jazzwise' which mentions the difficulties on this tour and the fact that it was run on a shoe-string financially. I'll dig it out.

Miles Davis Quintet - Newport 1967 (Wolfgang's Vault). This was a premium for signing up with Wolfgang's Vault for a year. I already had the music on a CDr, but this is nice-sounding mono LP. Hate the cover; love the music.

Unfortunately, I think that promotion is over.

My pre-order is accepted by Wolfgang's Vault. :shrug[1]:

Milford Graves/Don Pullen - Nommo (SRP). Finally treated myself to this one when I found a copy at a price I could live with. It's the second cover, but that's okay with me. It arrived today, so I guess I'll consider it a birthday present to myself.

Christmas with John Fahey Vol. II

The cd version had to leave off Christmas Fantasy [Part I] in the interest of time. Too bad. It's not really Christmas stuff at all but lots of Brazilian music he was learning in 1975 from Baden Powell and Bola Sete!

@JeffCrom: Happened to pick up the Bob Brookmeyer "7XWilder" LP on Impulse! Nice album.
