HutchFan Posted June 9, 2019 Report Posted June 9, 2019 (edited) Sidney Bechet / Martial Solal - When a Soprano Meets a Piano (Inner City, rec. 1957) Edited June 9, 2019 by HutchFan Quote
sidewinder Posted June 9, 2019 Report Posted June 9, 2019 (edited) Lester Young ‘Pres’ (Esquire). Mystery live lo-fi recording and no sleeve. Still, at £3 a good find. Quick research indicates that this LP has material also put out on Ambrosia from 1952 Birdland recordings with Jesse Drakes and Wynton Kelly. Boris Rose? Edited June 9, 2019 by sidewinder Quote
kh1958 Posted June 10, 2019 Report Posted June 10, 2019 Gene Ammons, Brasswind (Prestige) Johnny Young's Chicago Blues Band (Arhoolie) Quote

This is not a copy of the Charlie Parker Records LP of the same name? This one's a dance date, iirc, not at Birdland. Quote
sidewinder Posted June 10, 2019 Report Posted June 10, 2019 Looks like it, thanks for that. Strange - those Charlie Parkers were put out by a small label called Egmont in the UK so not sure how this one ended up on Esquire. Quote
HutchFan Posted June 10, 2019 Report Posted June 10, 2019 Solo piano tonight. John Coates, Jr. - In the Open Space (Omnisound, 2 LPs) and Duke Jordan - Midnight Moonlight (SteepleChase) Quote
HutchFan Posted June 11, 2019 Report Posted June 11, 2019 Sonny Stitt - Blues for Duke (Muse, rec. 1975) with Barry Harris, Sam Jones and Billy Higgins One of the best Ellington tributes I've heard. Quote
HutchFan Posted June 13, 2019 Report Posted June 13, 2019 Cal Tjader at Grace Cathedral (Fantasy, 1977) Good fun. Quote
sidewinder Posted June 13, 2019 Report Posted June 13, 2019 (edited) ‘Trombone By Three’ (Esquire, mono). Another £3 sleeveless special - Kai Winding, JJ and Bennie Green sessions from Prestige, RVG in the runout. Very good sound - in fact this LP looks unplayed. My guess is that this, like the Lester Young, was old warehouse stock which has been rediscovered. If anyone has a spare sleeve, let me know. Edited June 13, 2019 by sidewinder Quote
