Chrome
I got the new BMG mailing recently, and I'm looking for some input on what to buy. I'm on a very strict budget, so right now I can only pick three of the following: Jimmy Smith - Prayer Meetin' Jimmy Smith - Rockin' the Boat Stanley Turrentine - Never Let Me Go Horace Silver - Cape Verdean Blues Freddie Hubbard - Ready for Freddie Jackie McLean - Right Now! Duke Pearson - Sweet Honey Bee Sonny Rollins - Newk's Time Any thoughts?
Kevin Bresnahan
Two of these are a "no brainer" in my book: Freddie Hubbard's "Ready for Freddie" and Sonny Rollins' "Newk's Time". If Morgan's "The Sidewinder" is a style you like, you'd probably like Duke Pearson's "Sweet Honey Bee". If not, I really like Jimmy Smith - Prayer Meetin'. Quite honestly, about the only one of these that I don't listen to very often is Stanley Turrentine's "Never Let Me Go" but I think that's mostly because I'm not a big fan of Shirley Scott's organ playing. Jimmy Smith's "Rockin' the Boat" doesn't do much for me either. Later, Kevin
catesta
Without a doubt, grab the Duke Pearson, Hubbard and Rollins dates.

Chuck Nessa
For quality, I completely agree with jhoots. You can get the rest later.
