I'm only 6:1 & 175 lbs--guess I've still got some growing to do... It's not only tulips that grow tall in Holland Survey shows Dutch are tallest on planet -- and getting heavier Updated: 4:18 p.m. ET July 22, 2004AMSTERDAM, Netherlands - The Dutch, already the tallest people on the planet, are still growing in height while also packing on the pounds. The market research organization GfK said on Thursday that data collected over the last seven years showed increasing demand for larger clothing sizes in the Netherlands, where the average man is about 6 feet, 1 inch, tall. “The Dutch are growing,” said GfK spokesman Koen Snoeren. The Dutch are nearly four inches taller on average than the British and Americans, and almost six inches taller than they were four decades ago. GfK’s analysis supports recent studies, including one by Professor Robert Fogel for the Pan American Health Organization, that ranks the Dutch as the tallest people on the planet. Fogel and other researchers put it down to affluence, a diet rich in dairy products, and good hygiene and health care. Studies by the Health Council of the Netherlands suggest the Dutch could grow another four inches in the next few decades. But some data, including GfK’s, also suggest junk food is limiting the health advantages that wealth has brought. Except I wasn't always tall. When I was born I was rather short, growing up I became taller, but never what I would consider tall. Today I'm tall by some standards, but less than 6 feet tall, so I'm really not tall at all. Okay, I would be considered tall in places like Chiapas Mexico. (they are very short there) Does any of this apply to me, If I'm not Dutch? Do I have anything to look forward to? Somebody please help me, please! Quote

Lovely to see all the foreign kids coming to the Koffieshop walhalla land and making their smokes just like they do at home, forgetting what they are dealing with. A personal experience: A Dutch gentleman was at my workplace a few weeks ago. He was probably 6'4", or so and about 30 years old. I made a comment about the New Yorker article, and he replied, "Yes, it's true. When I was young, I was tall. Now I'm only average height." Quote

I was five feet at birth, at least I have no memory of ever being smaller than that ... now I'm not dutch and not fat (ok, belly could be... well, forget about that!), can I hope for anything? Will I grow some more? Should I emigrate to Mexico to boost my ego? Quote
