Alfred Posted August 3, 2004 Report Posted August 3, 2004 Amazon.de offer almost every VERVE MASTER EDITION for € 9.99!!! Some nice music, IMO: ... and many more! Quote
tjobbe Posted August 3, 2004 Report Posted August 3, 2004 and the friends from jpc.de do offer them for the same price....so you have the freedom of choice... @Hans: at amazon you cannot search for them.. you need to know which they are. JPC returns 28 finds if you search by string. All Master series CD's you can get HERE Cheers, Tjobbe Quote
Daniel A Posted August 3, 2004 Report Posted August 3, 2004 A search for VME in the "Pop Musik" category at amazon.de was fairly successful. Quote
tjobbe Posted August 3, 2004 Report Posted August 3, 2004 Hi Daniel, this search for VME delivers you something like that guess the most secure way is to check the verve page and then go to the amazon.de/jpc.de Cheers, Tjobbe Quote
tjobbe Posted August 3, 2004 Report Posted August 3, 2004 Bastards! Thanks Alfred for the tip you're welcome Claude... but the question remains: shall I replace now some of my old Bill Evans verves or not ? Cheers, Tjobbe Quote
Claude Posted August 3, 2004 Report Posted August 3, 2004 (edited) Depends ... I have a dozen VMEs, 3 or 4 were upgrades. Some sound much better ("Back to back"), on others the improvement over the first CD version was minor (Mingus). I didn't have the possibility to compare the Bill Evans discs. Alfred Posted August 3, 2004 Author Report Posted August 3, 2004 Bastards! Thanks Alfred for the tip you're welcome Claude... but the question remains: shall I replace now some of my old Bill Evans verves or not ? Cheers, Tjobbe Tjobbe, if you have the late 80ies / early 90ies releases you have to upgrade. Are you a happy owner of the rusty Verve set you can sit back and relax ... B-) ... and repolish the box once again! Quote
Alfred Posted August 3, 2004 Author Report Posted August 3, 2004 VME overview Hans, This link is not really helpful but you can use it as a shopping list. Quote

mikeweil Posted August 14, 2004 Report Posted August 14, 2004 I'm lucky that I had many of those that interest me ... I ended up ordering six. Quote
tjobbe Posted August 16, 2004 Report Posted August 16, 2004 (edited) @mike: maybe amazon has some for you within their 8€ Atlantic (Warner/Rhino) Jazz offering with a lot of Coltrane, Herbie Mann, MJQ, etc some of them already listed in Spring In total you can find roughly 100 if you do a search HERE for Rhino Cheers, Tjobbe EDIT: Amazon.DE has reduced the price tag for the VME's to 9€ Edited August 16, 2004 by tjobbe Quote
Claude Posted August 16, 2004 Report Posted August 16, 2004 I just got the Bud Powell "Jazz giant" VME edition and compared it it to the 1988 CD version. It's really like night and day. These are new transfers from 78RPM discs. They sound much clearer, but there is also more surface noise. An essential upgrade. I will receive another batch of VME from jpc.de in the next days Quote
Claude Posted August 16, 2004 Report Posted August 16, 2004 I listened to the Charlie Parker "Big Band" VME. It sounds rather thin, distant and shrill. I don't have the 10CD box set to compare it too, but I have doubts that for this CD version they re-transfered the disc sources. Not much surface noise can be heard. I´m wondering if the "Bird and Diz" VME, which I have ordered, will show some improvment over the first CD version. Quote

mikeweil Posted August 23, 2004 Report Posted August 23, 2004 @mike: maybe amazon has some for you within their 8? Atlantic (Warner/Rhino) Jazz offering with a lot of Coltrane, Herbie Mann, MJQ, etc some of them already listed in Spring In total you can find roughly 100 if you do a search HERE for Rhino Cheers, Tjobbe EDIT: Amazon.DE has reduced the price tag for the VME's to 9? Was this aimed at me? Haven't been here for a week ... Thanks for the hint - I have most of the Atlantics that interest me. Among the Verves I ordered, the Nat Adderley turned out to be the greatest in the bunch - Roy Haynes plays magnificently on it! Were there CD issues of Cannonball's two EmArcy Lps with larger groups that are not on the Quintet's 2 CD set? Quote
