connoisseur series500 Posted September 6, 2004 Report Posted September 6, 2004 are safe... Some of you probably don't have any electricity or telephone capabilities right now... Quote
Big Wheel Posted September 6, 2004 Report Posted September 6, 2004 All clear down south, though it's been raining heavily on and off. We never really lost power except, strangely, the day before (maybe FPL was overloaded or something?) Even the little saplings I planted two weeks ago seem to have done all right! Quote
Bright Moments Posted September 6, 2004 Report Posted September 6, 2004 we jus' had a lil' wind! life is good! B-) Quote
Big Wheel Posted September 6, 2004 Report Posted September 6, 2004 My guess is that Dan's power is out. Even some parts of Dade County have no power, and farther north it's even more widespread. Quote
connoisseur series500 Posted September 6, 2004 Author Report Posted September 6, 2004 At least you guys are okay... Quote
connoisseur series500 Posted September 6, 2004 Author Report Posted September 6, 2004 Can't get hold of my parents in Boynton Beach. The phone lines must be dead. Martyjazz is there too. Quote
Shrdlu Posted September 6, 2004 Report Posted September 6, 2004 I have a friend who was in Tampa until last Wednesday, and then drove up to Pensacola (in case you don't know, that's in the panhandle, near the toe of Alabama). He sent us a message to say that he is now in the year 1885 and the De Lorean is buried in a mineshaft. Quote
Dan Gould Posted September 7, 2004 Report Posted September 7, 2004 Well, here's the status: Power went out 11:45 PM Saturday morning. Still out at this hour; my wife and I headed up to her Mom's house in Jupiter to enjoy AC, warm showers and brewed coffee (yes, Jupiter got hit hard, but somehow they have power and we don't). Worst damage: the fence on one side of the property failed. Biggest annoyance (during the storm itself, not the A/C-less aftermath): Our neighbor (who's been a pain the ass since we moved in) chose to abandon the property and do nothing whatsoever to secure it in any way, shape or form. The problem? Left on her patio is: Two Smokers One propane grill plus extra tank glass top table pieces of a weight lifting set etc., etc. So, when the fence came down, all of a sudden we're staring at a bunch of things that may take flight at any moment and crash into our house! We called the police-they said that we have every right to do whatever we think is necessary to make ourselves safe, so when we got a chance, we ran over there in the rain and wind and got everything inside her screened-in porch. Took all of ten minutes! That's all she had to do before she got the hell out of Dodge, but NOOOOO! Can't wait til the crack whore starts bitching at us for moving her stuff. Current status: We cleared up all the yard debris and dismantled the sections of downed fence, so really, we're just waiting to hear that the power is restored, and then we're back home. (You'll know when that happens when I've resumed my normal posting habits. ) Quote
connoisseur series500 Posted September 7, 2004 Author Report Posted September 7, 2004 Glad you're well, Dan. Quote
Tim McG Posted September 7, 2004 Report Posted September 7, 2004 My father-in-law lives just North West of Palm Beach, inland. We still haven't heard from him... Quote
Joe G Posted September 7, 2004 Report Posted September 7, 2004 Good to hear from you, Dan! Thanks for checking in. Quote
BERIGAN Posted September 7, 2004 Report Posted September 7, 2004 (edited) Hey!!!! We were told we here in the ATL were going to miss most of Frances just yesterday, now were are told to expect 4-6 inches of rain, and is going to go right over us(I know, it is just a sissy storm now, but tons o' rain still in it). And it is quite windy. Edited September 7, 2004 by BERIGAN Quote
Dan Gould Posted September 8, 2004 Report Posted September 8, 2004 Final update: Power was restored last night at 8 pm! Back in the old homestead, slept in my own bed, now drinking my own brewed coffee ... B-) Now, I just need to get down to my office building and see what's what. But from what I've gathered, Boca Raton is still suffering the after effects, and my best bet is, no power yet. Maybe I'll have the rest of the week off! Quote
jazzbo Posted September 8, 2004 Report Posted September 8, 2004 Dan, glad you are finally home! Anyone heard from Martyjazz? DSGTRANE? Quote
brownie Posted September 8, 2004 Report Posted September 8, 2004 Glad to see things getting back to normal! Dan is posting a new list of A to Z. No records damaged. That's the main thing Quote
BruceH Posted September 8, 2004 Report Posted September 8, 2004 Can't wait til the crack whore starts bitching at us for moving her stuff. Those damn crack whores! They really piss me off! Quote
connoisseur series500 Posted September 8, 2004 Author Report Posted September 8, 2004 My folks are fine in Boynton Beach, but the power will be out till later this week at the earliest. My guess is that Marty is okay but won't be able to post until the electricity comes back on. Quote
Dan Gould Posted September 10, 2004 Report Posted September 10, 2004 I don't think he's been back, but I did get a message from Marty that power was finally restored in Boynton not quite two days ago. 'Course, now we've got Ivan to worry about. Quote
Bright Moments Posted September 10, 2004 Report Posted September 10, 2004 hey dan, ivan should get his OWN thread!!! Quote
Dan Gould Posted September 10, 2004 Report Posted September 10, 2004 I'm sure he will, Evan, I'm sure he will ... Quote
jazzbo Posted September 10, 2004 Report Posted September 10, 2004 Well, no one has heard from DSGTRANE (David Gardner). . . Now I'm worried! Quote
jazzbo Posted September 10, 2004 Report Posted September 10, 2004 Thanks to Marty for helping, I got an email from David, and he's OTAY! Quote
Shrdlu Posted September 11, 2004 Report Posted September 11, 2004 What an awful mess Ivan made of Grenada! Everyone in its path, or wake needs our prayers. I just saw some U.N. dude being interviewed about the possibility of sending help to Grenada. He hemmed and hawed about it. It would be great if that body did some good for once. They have mucho dinero. Quote
Big Wheel Posted September 11, 2004 Report Posted September 11, 2004 (edited) Unlike, of course, the good old U.S. of A....not while there's missile shields to build and other countries that haven't been invaded! Edit--in fairness to both USAid and UN, it seems that both are roughly at the same place in the humanitarian process- people are still flying in to figure out what needs to be done.
