Brad Posted November 30, 2004 Report Posted November 30, 2004 I'm sure many of us know about David's (ghost of miles) Night Lights Program but I have to admit that I didn't listen to it until the first time this past weekend. Thank god, they archive these programs to show me what I'd missed. These programs are oustanding, so much so that after listening to Part 1 of the Arrangers about George Russell and Hal McKusick, I purchased from Dusty Groove a Hal McKusick Cd from Fresh Sounds. I encourage everybody to try to listen and here's the link for the archives: Night Lights Archives. Thanks David. Quote
wesbed Posted November 30, 2004 Report Posted November 30, 2004 I've been listening to the archives as well. I've enjoyed the shows I've listened to. If the archives weren't available I'd have missed all the shows except one. Night Lights Archives Quote
pryan Posted November 30, 2004 Report Posted November 30, 2004 The shows that I have heard have been quite excellent. I hope to catch many more in the future. Congrats on the gig, David. Quote
Big Al Posted November 30, 2004 Report Posted November 30, 2004 Wow! Thanks for the link! I'm glad these are being archived. Got THE CONNECTION on right now! Thanks again, GoM! Quote
AfricaBrass Posted November 30, 2004 Report Posted November 30, 2004 I've bookmarked the site and I'm listening right now. Quote
Big Al Posted December 1, 2004 Report Posted December 1, 2004 Arrrggghhh!!!! Brad is a bastard for alerting us to the archives of Ghost’s wonderful show. However, Ghost is an even BIGGER bastard for putting together an astoundingly outstanding show detailing the works of Jackie McLean & Grachan Moncur III. Man, I wish there was a way I could listen to this show in my car. The insights and commentary are fantastic, and the cuts from Hipnosis live up to the hipness of the title! And in a little bit, the folks at Mosaic are gonna jump to the top of the DIRTY ROTTEN BASTARDS list. Ah well, Christmas comes early I guess! Seriously, I am so glad these shows are archived since the show is on so late, which doesn’t matter cuz I only have dial-up at the house. Thanks again, Ghost, and a fine job you are doing! Quote
pryan Posted December 1, 2004 Report Posted December 1, 2004 Yeah, that HIPNOSIS date could be my favorite off of the Moncur Mosaic Select. Especially the title track. Some smokin' Jackie on that set as well. Grab it Al, it's a good set. Quote
ghost of miles Posted December 2, 2004 Report Posted December 2, 2004 (edited) Hey, thanks much... man, how much do I owe you all? B-) I'm getting a lot of support from my station for the show and really appreciate your comments, esp. since this crowd is so hip & smart and knowing ( ). I'm also always open to suggestions for programs as well. This board has been so illuminating, tipped me off to so many interesting records and books, that I feel the show is shaped in some ways by its influence. That's one of the reasons why I have a link to it on the show's website. (Though I should modify the description and simply say, "THE best jazz discussion group..." ) Well, enough of this orgy of mutual backscratching! At least for a few hours, anyway... Big Al Posted December 2, 2004 Report Posted December 2, 2004 (edited) Yeah, get back to work, ya bastard! (Can ya tell I like that word? I always imagine Ric from The Young Ones whenever I type or read it!) Edited December 2, 2004 by Big Al Quote
AfricaBrass Posted December 2, 2004 Report Posted December 2, 2004 I've listened to a number of shows, Ghost, and I'm really impressed. I took a history of jazz course in college and your show is more entertaining and educational. Quote
