Claude Schlouch Posted December 5, 2004 Report Posted December 5, 2004 Hi folks, Remember that the great Kenny Dorham left us 32 years ago. Peace to his soul! Claude Quote
pryan Posted December 5, 2004 Report Posted December 5, 2004 Haven't spun QUIET KENNY in a while. This thread gives me ample cause to dig it out and have a listen; I love that session. I'll never forget the first time I heard the version of "Autumn in New York", from the Bohemia album (on a old cassette on loan from a friend). It was so painfully beautiful. Quote
brownie Posted December 5, 2004 Report Posted December 5, 2004 Hi folks, Remember that the great Kenny Dorham left us 32 years ago. Peace to his soul! Claude Always a good reason to celebrate the music of Kenny Dorham. Hope Claude Schlouch will come out of his hiding place and post here more often. Why don't we celebrate KD every day I do already... Quote
bertrand Posted December 5, 2004 Report Posted December 5, 2004 For those of you in NYC this week, there will be a KD tribute on one night, and a Hank Mobley tribute on another night at the Jazz Standard. On both nights, it will be Don Sickler, Ronnie Mathews and Kenny Washington. On 12/7, Hank Mobley, with Eric Alexander and Christian McBride. On 12/8, KD, with Jimmy Heath and Ron Carter. You know that with Don Sickler involved, they will be digging deep into the repertoire, not just the obvious tunes. Bertrand. Quote
Clunky Posted December 6, 2004 Report Posted December 6, 2004 KD was too individual a player to be forgotten, he's relatively easy to spot on record. He's perhaps my favorite trumpter of that era (save perhaps Brownie). There's a nice double page spread tribute to him in the current Jazz Review (UK) Dec 2004 by Brian Morton. It could be more detailed but it says all the right things. Quote
