Chuck Nessa Posted June 7, 2003 Report Posted June 7, 2003 "Ghost of Miles" visited me last night - we had a great time (at least I did). He's a bright guy with a genuine love of the music. If he knocks on your door, let him in. Quote
connoisseur series500 Posted June 7, 2003 Report Posted June 7, 2003 Which part of Michigan do you live in, Chuck? I live in Toledo, Ohio, which is of course just on the border. Quote
Chuck Nessa Posted June 7, 2003 Author Report Posted June 7, 2003 We live in Whitehall, a little town on the west coast of the state - about 11 miles north of Muskegon and 45 miles from Grand Rapids. Our daughter lives in Southfield. Quote
connoisseur series500 Posted June 7, 2003 Report Posted June 7, 2003 That's probably 4-5 hours drive from Toledo. Jim Alfredson lives in Lansing, I think. Quote
Soul Stream Posted June 7, 2003 Report Posted June 7, 2003 great to hear you guys got together. always curious as to the real people behind the personas. i'm curious as to how it transpired? do you live close? Quote
Chuck Nessa Posted June 7, 2003 Author Report Posted June 7, 2003 In a vacation thread, GoM said he and wife were going to vacation in Saugatuck, MI and I posted it wasn't too far from us and we took it from there. Quote
Jim Dye Posted June 7, 2003 Report Posted June 7, 2003 I'm going to be on the west side of the state of Michigan at the end of this month. I'm hoping to get over to Grand Haven with my family and catch Organissimo on tour. Unfortunately, I think your gonna be in Vegas, Chuck. Otherwise, I'd like to meet you too. Maybe sometime we can have an Organissimo Board hang in Detroit or Chicago. Get a bunch of us to go to the Velvet Lounge to catch Fred or Ken. Quote
Chuck Nessa Posted June 7, 2003 Author Report Posted June 7, 2003 Sounds good to me. Yes, we will be gone June 28-July 14. Maybe we should plan a convention! Quote
Jim Alfredson Posted June 7, 2003 Report Posted June 7, 2003 Yes, I do live in Lansing. Jim Dye, the schedule for Organissimo's Northern Michigan Tour is posted on the webpage. Go to the schedule page. Hopefully you can make one of the hits. We also may have a weekend at the Bird of Paradise in Ann Arbor in July. Toledo and Ann Arbor are quite close! Quote
connoisseur series500 Posted June 7, 2003 Report Posted June 7, 2003 We also may have a weekend at the Bird of Paradise in Ann Arbor in July. Toledo and Ann Arbor are quite close! Cool! I'll keep an eye out for you. I'm up in Ann Arbor all the time. Let me know the exact date. Quote
ghost of miles Posted June 9, 2003 Report Posted June 9, 2003 Chuck beat me to it with this thread--he is a gentleman & a scholar and a hell of a fun guy to hang out with in the bargain. He played me some amazing tapes, regaled me with stories of recording the Art Ensemble, shepherding Art Pepper around Chicago, and more. I also got to meet his wonderful wife Ann and share a great dinner with them. Many thanks, Chuck, and I hope to see you again when I'm up the Michigan way. P.S. Chuck played me the Buddy Bolden cylinder and it doesn't sound at all like Wynton's imitation of him. Quote
Son-of-a-Weizen Posted June 10, 2003 Report Posted June 10, 2003 Chuck and I were supposed to hang out and drain a couple of Strohs the first week of April....but when I followed the very detailed set of directions he'd sent me, I wound up at Aric's front door. Hhmm. Quote
ghost of miles Posted June 10, 2003 Report Posted June 10, 2003 In commerative honor of my visit to Chuck's place, I hope to one day nominate the following as "Album of the Week": Quote
